Virgin Media scoops two Broadband Genie awards

# 31 January 2011, 10:53 by Chris T

Virgin Media has scooped two of the seven awards on offer at the first annual Broadband Genie Awards, announced today.

The ISP took the Fastest Broadband Provider award using data drawn from more than 40,000 speed tests run by Broadband Genie and Think Broadband. And it won Best Bundled Broadband in a vote by a panel of industry experts.

But Virgin was beaten to both of the top gongs on offer by O2, which won Best Broadband Provider and the Customer and Tech Support Award – both awarded after analysing a poll of 3,000 broadband users.

Broadband Genie, a price comparison site for internet services and smartphones, handed its Best Budget Broadband award to Plusnet, its Most Innovative Provider award to BE Broadband, and Most Anticipated Product 2011 to BT, in anticipation of its continuing fibre rollout.

Website editor Chris Marling said: “We hope the variety and depth of our research for the awards will put them on the map as an important yearly indicator of which ISPs are performing above and beyond in home broadband.”
