Virgin Media seeking partnership for new Sports News channel

There were interesting indications revealed yesterday through various sources that Virgin Media is in discussions to launch a Sports News TV Channel to rival the offering by Sky. This would provide Virgin Media customers an alternative to the Sky Sports News channel that was dropped from the Virgin Media digital platform at the end of February.
Current discussions are centered around a partnership with the Irish operator Setanta, who have secured TV rights to many Premiership Football Matches. However other partners would be required to provide additional content.
Industry sources are quoted as saying the discussions are at an early but senior level. There is no official confirmation from Virgin Media of this story as of yet, and thus no indication as to when, or if, such a channel might become available.
