ntl issues statement on Virgin Mobile issues

# 24 October 2006, 10:17 by Cable Forum

As we reported last week with a couple of teething issues regarding ntl customers trying to sign up for the new Virgin Mobile package. Some existing ntl customers were reporting to us that they were having to wait days to get activated, others had been turned down due to failing a credit check. ntl Telewest have issued us with the following statement..

“ntl Telewest has teamed up with Virgin Mobile to offer the UK’s first quadplay offer. We currently have two credit checking processes for the two companies which the majority of people pass seamlessly.

We are working towards aligning our systems, as part of the integration of the cable and mobile businesses. We recognise that this current dual credit process is not ideal and we are looking to change it in the future – we apologise to customers if they are experiencing any temporary delays in the fulfilment of orders.

Quadplay is proving popular with customers and we are otherwise pleased with the success of the promotion.”

Meanwhile in other news, ntl have announced the death of their Deputy Chairman over the weekend.

In a statement, ntl state:

“It is with great sadness and regret that we can confirm that Anthony (Cob) Stenham, Deputy Chairman of NTL Incorporated, passed away over the weekend.

Cob served as Deputy Chairman since the merger of ntl and Telewest in March 2006, and had been with Telewest since 1994.

James Mooney, Chairman of NTL Incorporated, said, “Few words can describe the invaluable contribution Cob has made to our company and our industry over the years – he will be sorely missed by a great many people. Our thoughts are now very much with his family and friends during this difficult time.”

Mr Stenham was a member of NTL Incorporated’s 12 member board of directors. His position on the board will be vacant and the board will now be comprised of 11 members.”
