Clear your thumbs to speed up Tivo

I was fed up of TiVo recording stuff I'd never watch, so reset the thumbs up/ down, not having done that for 3 years. Suddenly its relatively speedy again. We'll see if it remains like that. I know rebooting helps temporarily; so it might be the same temporary affect.

However not going bother with thumbs anymore and see how it goes. Bit of a pointless gimmick anyway.

You might be right Den but I'll give it a week and see. TiVo is overloaded with apps/gimmicks which must have an affect on speed. All most want to do is watch and record TV programmes and not be left watching a spinning ring.

Re: Clear your thumbs to speed up Tivo

We are pretty happy with ours although we still like to reboot it every one or two weeks at a quiet time but our biggest grump is only having three tuners and not enough storage.

Re: Clear your thumbs to speed up Tivo

I've deleted the thumbs on a few boxes, mine and families/friends and it does seem to speed things up.

I've just had the new software update this week, the Tivos are so fast now, almost instant page loading and page up and down in TV Guide. Which is another bonus!

Re: Clear your thumbs to speed up Tivo

Just cleared the thumbs up/down (quite a lengthy business) and YES the box has speeded up considerably, not that my Cisco box has ever been as slow as some people report. Only time will tell if the new found speed will continue.

Re: Clear your thumbs to speed up Tivo

Does this include the thumbs up when selecting favourite channels?

Re: Clear your thumbs to speed up Tivo

Not sure how favourite channels work but just clear all thumbs via the settings -clear/rest option, and don't bother with the things again. Your TiVo will be ever so grateful.
