Missiles stationed on residential roof for Olympics

Quote:
The Army is set to station soldiers and high velocity surface-to-air missiles on top of a block of residential flats to ward off any airborne terror threats during the Olympics.

Residents in the private, gated flats in Bow, east London, have received a leaflet warning them that a team of 10 soldiers and police will be stationed at the building - home to 700 people - for the duration of the Games.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) leaflet says the missiles will only be fired as a last resort.

Good job the flats are gated or they would have been nicked by now in Bow

Presumably the Trident carrying Vanguard Class submarine on patrol will be relatively nearby just in case anything needs nuking.

Re: Missiles stationed on residential roof for Olympics

That didn't take long to get off topic.

Back on topic, please.

Re: Missiles stationed on residential roof for Olympics

Cool!

If I was one of the residents there I would support this. Makes logical sense and helps protect the games, even better if a plane is heading direct towards the Olympic Park the police aren't going to bring it down on top of themselves

How many residential appartment blocks have AA missiles on the roof, and military guards in the grounds.....it's about as secure as you can get. But some residents are still maoning

Probably just added another 100k to the value of the flats

Re: Missiles stationed on residential roof for Olympics

Not that long ago they were (maybe still are) thinking about having a similar installation in the park on the top of Shooters Hill in S. London. Even then a number of residents were whining about it. What on Earth do these people think the authorities should do I wonder? Seems to me that, as usual, they're damned if they do and damned if they don't...

Re: Missiles stationed on residential roof for Olympics

Do these people really think that we don't already have a number of these installations dotted around the UK already?

Or is it just a case of 'not near my home'?

Re: Missiles stationed on residential roof for Olympics

I reckon 'thinking' is what many of these people don't do enough of.
