sky+ box recieve freesat?

previous house owner has left the skydish on property-my friend has an old sky+ box with card in it-can i install it to my tv and pick up freesat channels?

With the existing card (as long as it's not out of date) it should recieve sky's FTV channels. To get all of freesat channels involves messing with the engineers menu.

Try it and see, it should work straight away

You can get all Freesat channels but you won't get the Freesat epg (not a big deal as you won't be using a pvr anyway).

even without a valid card all skys free to air channels should work , pay £20 for a card that gives all the Sky free sat channels and your local channel . that fee is a Once only until sky change there cards
