Re: Google Android

I've used the 5800.. and while it's alright, the current crop of Android phones just leave it in the dust.

Also, the Nokia N900 is a fine phone, but it doesn't have much software available for it.

Yup - but I always found symbian to be crap anyway - at the time I only had one reason for using it and that was because I had to use specific software on my phone.

I think the n900 is linux (Maemo) though?

Re: Google Android

Yes, the N900 is Maemo rather than Symbian. I bought the very first Maemo device (the Nokia 770) when it came out. Maemo is OK, but Android seems to have a better choice of software and devices.

Yup I used to have a 770 (used it for sat nav and all kinds of things )

I find my HTC Desire much better than either my nokia 5800 I used to have or the iPhone I used to have.

But as with anything it has it's moments Still I look forward to updates with interest.

Re: Google Android

Kind of on the same topic. My mum got a HTC Hero. Is there any FREE GPS Sat Nav software for it? I found out about "CoPilot Live", but that was paid............. so if anyone knows any FREE SatNav software then please let me know!

[You might wanna PM me "links" if required ].

I can't do this Google one, as I don't want it using the internet. I have an external Bluetooth GPS too, so I could possibly use that. I just need the SatNav software with UK Maps...

Actually there is a lot of software for the N900 if you add the correct catalogues. More than I saw available on my friends HTC Hero though only just.

Re: Google Android

There's a nice interview with the VP of Engineering at Google on their Android project.

http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/0...thing-android/

I like this bit:

Quote:
Sometimes being open “means not being militant about the things consumer are actually enjoying,” he said.
Take note Mr Jobs.

Also Android 2.2 will get full Flash 10.1

Re: Google Android

Just found that Ocado have got an app on Android for shopping including with voice search

Never used Ocado before, but had a play around with the App and it's very good. As they deliver to my area my have to consider trying them out. Doing my shopping on the bus to work sounds quite useful

Re: Google Android

Hardly a surprise. The iPhone OS is only currently available on two handsets (not counting the iPad). Android is available for many more than that. That's like saying Symbian outsold the iPhone.

The real surprise is that one handset manufacturer (Apple) is outselling many (if not all) of the Android manufacturers..
