They make sense in america due to the sheer size of the country. Our cities arent really big enough to really need or warrant an entire channel. Maybe combining regions north west, north east etc might have made some more financial sense ....

What you descibe sounds like ITV all over again That would be egg on the faces of Ofcom and it's predecessors - allow the various ITV franchise holders to water down their seemingly unsustainable PSB obligations to regional programming, only to start the process of a regional TV network all over again but with reduced coverage.

ITV. Independent Local Radio (as it was once). Lovely nice local services. But all more interested in saving money and joining the race to the bottom, which of course they were then allowed to do by the very regualtory body that now want to give us local services by milking money off the BBC (which is the only outfit still providing local services on TV & Radio).

What a crazy country we live in. Are the services there for the people, or the people there for the services? If you are a commercial organisation it will always be the latter.

Except for VM viewers in NI, who got season 4 on RTE2 last year in late summer.

Agreed, but the difference between the new cable channels set up and ITV as was is that ITV worked. The local areas served have to be big enough to be economical.

There is already egg on faces. Better to admit that and start rectifying the position by enlarging the franchise areas.

I think most people miss their own local ITV station Vince. They were much better then the generic rubbish that we have now.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

Rumour that At The Races to go HD, cheaper Sky Sports etc

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...9#post35893169

Could this lead to the closure of Sky Sports Mix?

About £18 a month is being mooted, but the catch is that you will receive a diminished range of sports.
