Re: EMI launches albums on MMC cards.

Who on earth is going to pay £30 for his album on MMC, when they can buy it on CD for half that and copy it over?

There is a difference between being a geek and being a mug. You can get a 256m MMC card for less than that. You can also get a 128m MMC card, and the CD for the price of just one MMC card with RW's album on it. And it is probably just 64m one.

Re: EMI launches albums on MMC cards.

Another good example of how out of touch certain elements of the music industry really are.

First as everyone is saying no-one is going to pay 30 quid for an album, it doesn't matter how popular the artist is.

Second, MMC cards are not secure enough for digital music.

Third, not that many phones use MMC.

Fourth, anyone savvy enough to be using a memory card to play digital music will already be aware of how to rip a CD and copy to one.

Fifth....er, that's it.

Yay, does that mean I can play Robbie "Turgid" Williams new excuse for an album on my Digital Camera?

Surely a full length album in decent quality would require more than 64m? (More like half a gig, I would think). If it's only 64m, you'd be paying £30 for inferior sound quality?

It is going to be compressed as MP3 though. At 128k (which is cd quality, so noone could argue) it would mean albums would be between 50m and 70m

Re: EMI launches albums on MMC cards.

I agree with all of andygrif's comments in post #7.

Kronas, the price of flash media has plummeted recently - check here:
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Products.ASP?CatID=13

Something funny has happened with the MMC format. For ages the maximum card size was 128Kbyte (like SmartMedia) and it looked as though it was on the way out. Suddenly, there are bigger cards available and products are sprouting MMC slots... or perhaps I have misunderstood the situation.
