MF.exe problem

Hi guys

My uncle asked me to have a look at his laptop that he got at xmas because when he goes to shut the laptop down, he gets a message saying "MF.exe is stopping windows from shutting down" This happens everytime and it's running windows 7.

I've run a Kasperski virus scan and it's reporting it's all clear. You got any idea on how to stop this message?

Thanks for any input you may have.

Re: MF.exe problem

MF.EXE is Media finder so probably associated with scanning the drive for new media files... Check whatever players he has installed and perhaps tell them not to scan for new files automatically.

Re: MF.exe problem

Further info:

mf.exe file information

The process belongs to the software unknown by unknown.
Description: mf.exe is located in the folder C:\Windows. The file size on Windows 7/XP is 19,682 bytes.
Program has no file description. The program has no visible window. The program starts when Windows starts (see Registry key: C:\Windows\system.ini). mf.exe is not a Windows system file. mf.exe seems to be a compressed file. Therefore the technical security rating is 70% dangerous, however also read the users reviews.
Recommended: Identify mf.exe related issues
Important: Some malware camouflage themselves as mf.exe, particularly if they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder. Thus check the mf.exe process on your pc whether it is pest.

You could try LockHunter - download FREE from
http://www.lockhunter.com/download.htm
to unlock the process and delete the file.

Hope this helps.

Re: MF.exe problem

There's no mf.exe in my Windows 7. I'd suggest you download and run Malwarebytes anti-malware as it may be something the antivirus is missing.
