Which Receiver

I was originally looking to buy the sony str-g520, however after reading a couple of reviews i'm not to sure if its the best option. I've a got 5.1 speakers already so i'm not bothered about the sound coming through the TV. Does anyone have a ps3 and a receiver with this connection setup and got it working ok:

PS3 - HDMI - Receiver

then, Receiver - HDMI - TV

Many Thanks

The Sony STR-DG520 is a 5.1 channel A/V receiver retailing for $199 released April 8th, 2008. It features 2 x HDMI pass-through inputs, and 2 x component video inputs. The receiver will not process the audio found on the HDMI inputs, nor will it transcode or upscale analog and component video inputs to the HDMI output or vis versa

where as the one I linked to

Dolby Digital Plus/dolby TruehdAre DDP or TrueHD included? Dolby Digital Plus is the next-generation, "better-than-DVD" sound processor and works up to 7.1 channels. TrueHD is Dolby's current ultimate system and has been designed specifically to get the full potential from HD-DVD and Blu-ray. Yes

Dts High Res Audio/dts Master AudioAre DTS HRA or MA included? DTS-HD High Resolution Audio delivers sound even more accurate and consistent than standard DTS. It has been designed to extract the most from HD-DVD and Blu-ray. DTS-HD Master Audio takes this one step further and is capable of delivering audio that is bit-for-bit identical to the original.

Hdmi AudioDoes the HDMI interface carry multi-channel audio? Only newer versions of HDMI carry multi-channel audio as well as video signals. Yes
no offense but I see no point in the HDMI interface on the amp other than to run more then one device on a tv with only 1 HDMI

Re: Which Receiver

Good point. Seems little point in that Sony one having HDMI if it's only a pass-through & doesn't actually do anything with the audio!

Re. the Denon one you linked to...

Can it handle multi-channel PCM audio over HDMI? [rather than just DD/DTS bitstreams]

Re: Which Receiver

I am not 100% sure on that trying to find mention of it

Re: Which Receiver

Yeah, although the PS3 can output normal DD/DTS 5.1 bitstreams, it can't output Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD Master Audio - instead it decodes them internally and outputs as LPCM. So if you want 7.1 HD audio from a PS3, you need a receiver which can take multi-channel LPCM over HDMI.

Re: Which Receiver

after hours of searching i've found this.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=270339831827

After reading reviews, it doesn't accept hdmi audio in. For godsake, why are receivers so complicated. I thought it would be simple just to go ps3-Hdmi-Receiver-Hdmi-TV. Upscaling isn't really a problem as i will be getting Sky hd in the future. But i do want the Ps3 to be connected to the tv (video & audio) via the receiver through the use of hdmi. Am i being to picky with this and should settle with a digital optical cable in?

Re: Which Receiver

dude save up the extra and get a really good bit of kit and not just an ok bit of kit

bare in mind if you use a ps3 as source you can use 6 channel output I believe and with sky you can use optical output so all is not lost audio wise without the hdmi
