Channel 5 Query

Hi,
We left NTL recently, after getting fed up trying to arrange Broadband with them.
Now we still have the analogue decoder left behind, which we use for the standard broadcast channels (BBC, ITV, Channel 4) so I don't have to set up an aerial again.
However, we can no longer get Channel 5. If I use an F-type connector to connect the tv directly to the NTL wall socket (by-passing the decoder box) will this overcome the problem please? Thanks.

p.s. Out of interest, does an analogue decoder box need to be powered to be used In the way I am currently using it, or can I pull the plug and do my bit towards saving the planet?

Polybear.
