BT likely to acquire O2 UK or EE.

Wonder if they'll bring Cellnet back.

Re: Mobile competitor landscape set to alter radically with BT buying EE or O2

I can see BT going for O2 (Again) as it would open up the way for proper quad play bundles. At the moment BT are reliant on either EE or Vodafone (I forget which as they were changing over the last time I checked) for their business mobile bundles.

A mobile aquisition would also tie in very nicely with the 4G spectrum BT bought at auction.

A tie-in with O2 would complement BT's spectrum nicely, EE not so much as they already have an excess of the same type of spectrum which they aren't using. On the other hand they're already partnered with EE for their MVNO offer.

As for quad-play, we already know O2 isn't interested.

Got a new VirginMobile SIM today and when I inserted into my mobile I was asked if I'm customer of:-
T-Mobile/EE
Virgin
BT

Don't know if to read anything into the BT option?

The BT option is for the BT MVNO that has been running on EE since early last year.
