Re: BT Infinity installed

Yeah, the homehub has a built-in ADSL modem, the seperate OR "fibre" modem comes in addition to that for Infinity customers.

Re: BT Infinity installed

And we're in:

Slight issue as the OR engineer was supposedly only booked to connect Infinity to my non-existent phone line. A few calls to find the job on the system that was floating around assigned to no-one, a quick re-shuffle and he was away to work. Up the ladders to the fascias, no messing. New cabling, new master socket, bish bash bosh. Only thing he didn't do was mount the OR modem on the wall (did this myself).

Really happy with the responsiveness of this connection. It seems 'snappier' with just about everything I do. YouTube is a different service.

Sounds like a proper OR engineer (there are 3 different kinds) - job well done by the sounds of things (despite the initial order cock-up). There is a recommendation to mount the modem on the wall vertically to aid heat dissipation; earlier batches had some overheating issues.

Re: BT Infinity installed

I think they updated the rollout today, just got this email.

Quote:
Thanks for telling us that you're interested in superfast fibre broadband.
We're really pleased to let you know that your local exchange, LEICESTER, has been added to our rollout plans.
You can get more details about the current status of the LEICESTER exchange, and find out when superfast fibre broadband will be available, using our new interactive map at www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when.
Because there are instances where we can't upgrade every single street cabinet, we'd advise you to contact your preferred Communications Provider and use their line checker to find out whether or not your property will be able to get superfast fibre broadband.
Satisfy your need for speed, with downloads of up to 100Mbit/s – and join our superfast fibre revolution.

Regards,

Openreach Marketing

Re: BT Infinity installed

Looks like a bit of weasel wording. They're saying you might get into a position like my mate in Wokingham (see http://www.cabinet5.co.uk/). So BT says contact your "preferred communications supplier". And if that's BT, are they gonna telly you that cabinrt 5 round the corner from you isn't gonna get done?

Re: BT Infinity installed

All ISPs get their data from BT in the end anyway, BT just don't give it out directly.

The actual average coverage on an "enabled" exchange is a little over 70-80% of cabinets, but rarely is it 100%.

Leicester was actually announced last year, phase 9a.

There is a public list that provides info on every single planned area down to individual cabinets.

Wokingham cabinet 5 is scheduled for late this year/early next year (phase 9b). Many other areas of Wokingham are also phase 9a or 9b, PCP5 is nothing special. It's definitely planned, though plans can change.

Re: BT Infinity installed

yeah it entered FE status a few months back so either this email was lagged or a further update triggered it.

Quasi

My mate who put up that web site has gone to the ends of the earth (and BT) to find out when PCP5 will be upgraded. We've got the big spreadsheet too but haven't been able to find the "publicly available" data down to cabinet level.

Where did you find this info?

Re: BT Infinity installed

The big spreadsheet includes each individual cab and the postcode(s) the cabs serve, currently saying Wokingham PCP5 is phase 9b.

Re: BT Infinity installed

Yeah - but where is phase b given a date? I didn't see that in the big spreadsheet?

My mate has a VM box 150 yds from his gaff, but VM refuse to canvass his small street for takers and BT won't give hima date for PCP5.

Re: BT Infinity installed

There's no fixed date for any of the phases or cabinets, it'll get done when it gets done. The phase is just indicative of the order when work will be expected to get done - nothing more than phase 6 will mostly get done before phase 7 which comes before 8, etc. 9a was announced last December, expected "before end of 2012", so 9b will be roughly around then or shortly afterwards.
