Re: No reminders on Tivo?
A lot of people on here swear that there is no need for reminders, a lot of us disagree
A wishlist just searches for programs that match your description, you can't specify a time period
VM say they are investigating if reminders can come back
There will be a software update sometime this year, how long no one knows
Oh and don't forget there is no red button service either

Re: No reminders on Tivo?
I was thinking many fans of live sport might be disappointed, it wouldn't be the same to watch something after the event recorded such as a football match. Say for example you miss 30 minutes and rewind you'd then be out of touch with the event and hear people outside celebrating but you don't yet know the end result?
I think this is quite a mistake on VM's part, Sky boxes and many freeview boxes support reminders. I'm really surprised this feature is missing...

Maybe if enough people complain to VM the update will happen and as soon as possible. I've already submitted my feedback over the phone and by e-mail I was definitely surprised that the bloke I spoke to and his supervisor were totally unaware...

You are right but it's worth noting that VM do seem to be sitting up and taking notice already. They say that due due to unexpected feedback they are looking to see if reminders can be added.

If TiVo can do it, then VM will add this, but it's not top of the list.
I think you should use TiVo, and then decide if you can wait or if you just can't live without the legacy feature

Nothing to stop you from watching the recording from the very beginning, the second it starts

But how will he know to switch over without a reminder (if he is watching another channel at the time)?

That's a good point I think that's half of it, the other alternative is the even more legacy thing of checking your watch/clock regularly to see what time it is so you don't miss the start of the programme.
Tivo surely wouldn't know every programme you might switch to spontaneously? I can understand that if it's something you might like it would record it for you but if you say suddenly notice you've missed 10 minutes of something (due to not having a reminder) you couldn't I guess switch over and rewind it unless it happened to be in the wish list or something Tivo would have recorded it for you?

Well if he can't remember what he's set to record I think he has bigger problems Besides, there's a nice big red light on the front which should help
However, I'm getting deja vu again so that's it from me in this thread for now.

It's called a brain. We all have them.
reminders made sense on V+ for the tuner that didn't record. But as all tuners record on tivo, reminders aren't needed. For those who want them, fine, but you don't actually need them.

It was quite a downer really as the Tivo seemed amazing and I was getting really excited about it then shocked to find out a feature like that would be missing? Surely quite a few people would have used that and wanted it?
Someone from VM posted on the VM forum as follows:
"As far as I know we were not anticipating the huge demand for the reminder option on the TiVo box however our engineers are now looking into this and seeing if it can be added in."
I just called 150 and went through to the installations team and asked them about it and the guy I spoke to wasn't aware of it and was also surprised that Tivo didn't have reminders, reported it to his supervisor and filled in a feedback form for me.
I'm really hoping it wouldn't be difficult for them to add it in and it might be possible...
He also suggested sending a complaint form in for 'other' to highlight it. If I can get any confirmation it would be included I would be happy to sit tight and wait a little while. I really just need to know whether or not it will be implemented as I could return the Tivo but would still be charged the installation fee. I might even love it so much I could live without reminders...

The simple answer was reminders are from before V+ and were there to remind you of stuff as the boxes couldn't record. Now with three tuners people should be changing their habits and not need to remind them of stuff starting as they can record so much and store it on the huge hard drive.
If there is a live event that you have been planning on watching for ages you really shouldn't be forgetting about it, otherwise it can't really be that important. Even the TiVo guys can't understand people needing reminders. It's really just habit and people still think they need them, but they don't really. I personally haven't used a reminder since I last used a pace stb!!
As some people still think they are required, TiVo and VM will see if they can be added.
