Re: ITV1 HD on Virgin

No ITV HD in Scotland, that's terrible news. Virgin are able to bring us ITV AD, which allows me to see the FA cup, and BBC England, Ireland etc... How come we can't get ITV HD? Does anyone know if you'll get ITV HD on SKY in Scotland?

Enjoy your HD England

No, not available on Sky, Virgin Media or FreeView HD (when it comes to Scotland/N.Ireland.)

Re: ITV1 HD on Virgin

Thanks for the update Digital Fanatic. I'll assume that also rules us out of any ITV HD on demand and catch up also?

I can't see STV launching a HD channel any time soon. They are apparently struggling financially. I have however noticed that they do shoot some programmes in HD format. It's often available on their STV player service online. Such a pity as an all HD World Cup would have been great. Oh well can't have it all I suppose. Just looking forward to Virgin's next HD announcement.

ITV1 HD won't be available to scottish viewers, sorry.

I'd contact STV and put pressure on them to launch STV HD
I've sent an e-mail off.

I don't mind the fact that STV opts out from London on occasions, if it means decent progammes are produced in Scotland. I still have access to ITV London and have a choice of programmes and movies.

Loosing out on a decent HD channel would be a blow especially if one of the World cup semi finals is only on ITV.

AFAIK the On Demand content will be available to all on TV Choice (XL)... no mention of an opt out for the Scottish/N.Ireland regions as far as I can see.

Wouldn't watch it. Don't watch anything in HD as it is. Waste of time and money, it's no better than SD, and I have an HD TV.

I suggest that you go for an eyesight test if you cannot see any difference between SD and HD...your telly must obviously set up wrongly ...

All set up correctly. there are marginal differences, but...nothing worth paying for.

that's that sorted then

HD is free/inclusive on VM XL, so not really a waste of money

It is if you spend £600 on a ruddy HD telly only to find it's not really any different!

Looks lovely on my Sony Bravia The difference is quite clear.

Don't forget the V+ upscales SD as well, so the only true test would be comparing a V-box picture to the V+HD

I've got several tellies here, the others are all CRT. The best picture of all of them if a widescreen Philips CRT, using the second ntl box which is a Samsung non-HD box. I'd go as far as to say the SD picture on that is superior to the supposed HD picture I get on the V+ box.

I think this has something to do with wearing glasses. HD pictures look pixellated to me. In fact so does any picture on a flat screen, including on computers. CRT pictures look *loads* better.
