BB Reading Area (RG10)

Anyone having an 'issue' with BB in the Reading Area?

I have 10M connection and its reasonable most of the time....

Its not 'not working' working as such - just slow and clunky, fast then slow, and at the moment only certain pages are accessible. I have tried a couple of proxy servers but not much change.....

rgs

Re: BB Reading Area (RG10)

RG21; can reach general sites (like this one, BBC, etc.), but no connection to anything on ntl (homepage, status page) -- and both mail and Usenet connections are dead.

At least it looks as if it's at ntl's end rather than at my end.....

Re: BB Reading Area (RG10)

Can't get to ntlworld.com from outside NTL network either (from my easynet work connection).

Also I could browse out from my home machine attached through NTL, but cannot seems to access the web server I'm running on my home machine from my work either.

RG12 area (Bracknell).

Snow on the cable?

Re: BB Reading Area (RG10)

I'm in Bracknell - RG12. The problem seems to be the NTL DNS servers which are not pingable (i.e. they're both offline! ). Without DNS your PC does not know where www.bbc.co.uk is (for example) because it needs the IP address - 212.58.224.88. DNS translates one to the other. The reason you are getting to some sites is that your PC has cached the DNS entries for those sites.

Thanks to my VPN to work I managed to get details of some other DNS servers you may want to try and use - 158.43.240.3 & 4 worked for me!

mm are you sure ? because i connect to mIRC via a bnc using the ip address not the host name and i cant connect by that at all, yet i can connect normally to irc by ip and host name. i can also do dns lookup on irc which normally i cant if there is a dns problem. Cant get any RSS feeds though even on the sites i can connect to (will change dns anyways see if it helps and no it made no difference)

I'm in RG12 too and having trouble. Changing DNS servers didn't help for me either.

Re: BB Reading Area (RG10)

Thanks all .. at least its not my local PC / setup then ....

Same issues now (back at home).

VPN to a work PC and everything is fine.....

The DNS issue looks interesting and would explain why I was trearing hair out early this morning - cos my desk PC was getting some sites whilst my wireless laptop was getting others (but they were not getting the same) - pointing to different stored DNS entry on each PC?
