Re: Sunday Speed in Brighton 21.17
The problem with that is the "universal" advertising of "Up to" on the ADSL side would have to be severely skewed and I see no need for it to be - all providers there already offer fairly accurate estimates of what my line will sustain while the "Up to" tells me what technology it is using and what it's capable of.
If they changed things to work the way you're suggesting, we'd end up with ADSLMax, ADSL2 and ADSL2+ all being advertised as "Up to 8mb" even though the performance would be vastly different between them.

Re: Sunday Speed in Brighton 21.17
I can go with that. So basically we need them to adopt the adsl practises and say although it is up to, you'll only get xxx in your area. They can do this in conjunction with the postcode checker and give the average speed for each tier in that area

Re: brighton Slooooow Again
I think brighton gets the same issue every single year for at least the last 3 years. It looks clear to me VM are not motivated for whatever reason to add the necessary capacity to fix it. Same old issue with VM (ntl) that problem areas stay as problem areas.

Re: Brighton Slow Again
it is 500mbit (not gigabit) and he gets it because he clones other peoples modems on 100mbit and daisy chains them all together 6 at a time and normally gets about 530mbit out of it. I don't know how he manages the upload speed though because that is 30 modems (10 up) connected in a parallel circuit and I didn't think that was possible.
