Nothing like the sound of stable doors being closed after the horses have bolted.

I tend to agree. This form of terrorism is a cancer which well intentioned but ill-conceived migration policy is only going to assist in its metastasis.

Re: Stockholm lorry attack
It just goes to show that if a person fails the asylum request they should be deported immediately and not left to wander the country illegally.

Well yes and it makes you wonder just what the politicians who made the decisions thought would happen to all those who'd subsequently be rejected, sometimes years later. Did they think they'd all just quietly await their fate, sign in every couple of weeks and turn up meekly on deportation day? Regardless of the legality, many of these people are understandably desperate. They've had their hopes of a new life raised, many have seen friends, relatives, loved ones die en route and they've pinned their hopes on life in the west. Once the sad reality dawns on them, you don't have to look much further to see a very vulnerable and easily manipulated group of disaffected people who will certainly be the target of extremists and terrorist recruiters. The same will likely be true of many of those who're allowed to remain but whose lives turn out to be far from what they imagined and who become increasingly disillusioned and angry.
The unpalatable truth is that there are hundreds of thousands of people wandering around the EU who are illegally here, can't get jobs and are going to be reliant on charity or theft for their survival. In the absence of proper jobs, housing etc. inevitably, many of these people are likely to turn to petty crime and worse as their desperation and resentment grows.
I've just heard a Labour Rochdale MP (IIRC) protesting about the very large number of migrants who've been effectively 'dumped' there with no means of adequately supporting themselves and the resulting social and other problems. Yes it's all very well taking in migrants but unless the required finance, facilities and services are put in place for them what are they supposed to do and is it any wonder that the local people get upset about it and tensions rise?

Agreed. It should be like The Apprentice with the cab outside ready to take them to the airport.

Re: Stockholm lorry attack
It's not exactly a surprise is it but I wonder how many of these people just use ISIS as a convenient hook to hang their coats on when life doesn't work out the way they'd like.

I know what you mean. But some of these terrorists see attacks like this as an attack against Western Society. They don't differentiate from one country to the other.

Well that'd be an example of what I was saying. There are plenty of folks who have a screw loose and when they happen to be Muslims it's easy for them to claim some sort of allegiance to ISIS or blame one western act or another for their actions whether that makes sense or not.
Don't get me wrong, there's clearly a big issue with a certain proportion of Muslims who really believe in what the likes of ISIS preach but there's a great many more who don't.

Re: Stockholm lorry attack
Deporting asylum seekers on failure can be a bit harsh. They could be genuine but can't easily prove it. It's a tough one getting the right balance.
One problem is relabelling refugees as migrants. There is a difference and the latter tends to get less sympathy than the former. And people can flee genuine persecution from stable and even "friendly" countries.
Me thinks there is genuine risk from "sleepers" who did arrive legally, have stable lives and jobs but are ready when needed to "go rogue". Doesn't even need to be hugely planned, just drive a bus/lorry/taxi/car into a crowd/building/river. These "sleepers" could even be the UK born children on immigrants who see and issue and want to react. They don't go abroad to get radicalised. They don't attend radical meetings. But they see what they feel an injustice and react.

Re: Stockholm lorry attack
A friend in northern Sweden (not Swedish herself) says that the public outcry was not that public as people are still afraid of being labelled racist. But there are signs that the public is now ready to question the immigration policy.
