I feel bad
My son had this sickness bug thats going around and he has passed it on to me.
Went into work this morning and they sent me home.
Just had to tell my manager I been advised to rest for a few days.
I told her if she wants me to go in I will but I feel bad for telling her I cant go in
Only been at the job for 2 months so quite worried.
Have I done the right thing?

Re: I feel bad
With this bug yes. If you go in chances are more people in the team will be infected and it will carry on and on and on.
As Drs keep advising if you get this everyone stay home till you are better and it will stop the ongoing transferrence of the bug.
If you work in anything customer facing think how many people you get the chance to spread it to daily.

Re: I feel bad
Stop feeling bad. What you are doing is perfectly normal.
What is the point of going in to work and not only making yourself feel worse, but then passing on your bug to everyone else and then the whole place goes down.
Get some rest, take it easy for a few days and don't feel bad.
I hope you get well soon

Sorry to hear that you've got it. Touch wood, none of us have - yet!?!
If your employer starts to kick up a fuss, then point them in this general direction -

Workers need to remain at home for 48 hours after the symptoms have gone and stay away from surgeries and hospitals, the Royal College of GPs warned.

Re: I feel bad
Sorry to hear about your nipper mate.
My wife came down bad with it last night (presuming we're on about the Norovirus) and it was my daughter's 3rd birthday today.
All presents still wrapped, cards unopened - wouldn't be the same without her. We'll do it when she's well I guess.
I rang NHS helpline as she's pregnant, but they said not to worry - just ride it out and stay hydrated, and sent me to chemist for some Electrolade
It's contagious by touch & contaminated food/liquids I believe, but the intense vomiting can send the germ particles airborne so the rule is clean, clean, clean everything.
My wife's confined herself to the bedroom - I'm scared to death the little one will catch it.
I hope your boy has a speedy recovery.
p.s. don't feel bad about work - your employer will (should) thank you for staying away and not risking infecting the whole workforce!

Re: I feel bad
Hope you get better soon. I had a small accident today with my left knee. It's been operated on twice and I had my nerves damaged by the so called specialist. Any ways I hit my knee hard. I have taken paracetomal and metipe morphine tablets. My knee has puffed up like a ballon. My tracky bottoms have been cut as they are where starting to cut into the circulation .My wife is diabled and worried. I can't make it down the stairs as I can't put on any pressure on my leg. I can't drive at the moment due to my knee. what should I do. If I goto the hospital im screwed as i would see the person who messed me up in the first place . Well not at first but later on I would be reffered under him.

Or if you/she don't like the taste Powerade does the same or very similar job and you can get that from Tesco as does Tesco Active IsoTonic, (or Gatoraid if you are in the US).

Thanks for that.
The missus wasn't keen on the taste to be honest - I'll try that, cheers.

Re: I feel bad
My mate probably caught it off a co-worker who came back too early (no sick pay for the first 3 days so he was desperate to get back and earn cash). As a result half the workforce went off sick, and my mate carried the bug home to his missus, 4 kids and week-old baby.... who was rushed to hospital (but recovered quickly).
This is just an inconvenient bug for most, though not for old, infirm or very young.
Just imagine if this was a virulent killer flu going around!

Stay at home mate, it says on the website that anyone with the symptoms should stay at home until the virus clears, if you worked for me I'd be will mad if you came into work with that Norovirus. Stay at home buddy.

Re: I feel bad
I have had the Norovirus twice in 3 weeks. You can only build up an immunity of about 1 week to the virus so its entirely possible to get it again. It is advised that after the symptoms have gone that you stay at home for at least another 2-4 days to prevent its spread. Also, disinfect all surfaces you have touched, including the bathroom, door handles, bed sheets and other surfaces.
Also, do not prepare food for anyone other than yourself unless entirely necessary (e.g. single parent with young children unable to make their own meals).
Drink water, even if you are vomiting it back up (but take sips) as some will still get into your system. After 24-36 hours, you should be able to eat and drink again, but take it easy on the food (e.g. eat bread, cheese, cereal with a small amount of milk), and don't drink anything fizzy.
Hope this helps anyone else that is unfortunate enough to contract it.

Re: I feel bad
My wife's loads better today, thankfully.
A quick question for anyone - I've not got this, and neither has my daughter, but we're usually at playgroup tomorrow. Should I stay away to be on the safe side?
I'm guessing yes?
