New Hub

I had my router replaced with a new hub as I wasn't getting anywhere near the 200mbs speed. After the router was changed all was ok ,but I just did a speed test, and it was very low. I was told it could be my ethernet cable so I put a new one on, but no change. My network card is a gb, and I'm running XP and before anyone says anything about XP, I have been consistently getting 200mbs and more over the last 12 months.

My techie friend has suggested trying a new network card and said I need to ask for a gigabyte PCIe16 card compatible with XP. PC World are my nearest outlet and from my experiences there, the staff don't know a lot. Can someone recommend the right card to buy please?

Re: New Hub

Before getting a card make sure the manufacturer has XP drivers available for it. So nothing too new.

BTW I run XP SP2 and consistently get the 70Mbs that I pay for.

Re: New Hub

What colour are the lights on your existing network card and on the Superhub?
They should be green to indicate a 1GB connection. If they are yellow, then you are only connecting at 100MB.

Don't bother buying a new network card. Are you using homeplugs or anything like that? Does your network connection say it's connected at 1.0Gbps? What speeds were you actually getting? How did you do your testing?
