Labour are insane

No other way of putting it: link

John McDonnell, the shadow Chancellor, would grab 20 per cent of the assets of the richest 10 per cent of Britons if Labour got into power, it emerged today.

Re: Labour are insane

The assets are only worth anything if others have the spare cash to buy them.

The ones that created the banking crisis were the ones without money, who wanted get-rich-schemes of buying houses that would increase in value, or housing developments that weren't needed. What happened afterwards was a pass-the-parcel of the debt of those people. The money for those "investments" came from the well-off. It is the well-off who didn't get paid back from their investments. It is the well-off and their spare cash that provides the money for mortgages, personal loans, and business loans and that is why the banking system had to be protected. If the well-off don't put their money in banks, no loans of any sort are possible.

Mmm, a video from 5 years ago...

Something has to be done about the obscene gap between rich and poor in this country, that is getting bigger all the time. Divisions are only getting greater. This may not be the solution, but they are right to see it as an issue that needs to be addressed. The current cabinet of millionaires, who won't publish their tax returns (unlike McDonnell), certainly won't be bothered.

Low income families in Britain hold an average of just £95 in savings and investments, compared to a mean £62,885 that higher income families have, according to new research, which highlights the widening gap between rich and poor.

Re: Labour are insane

Just love the way he reckons 'the rich' caused the crisis. Really John? Really?? What you mean all of them were responsible and none of them have contributed anything positive to UK PLC and society in general? No worthwhile contribution whatsoever? Nope, they're all the same, rich, fat cat banker pigs...

The thing about New/Old/Same Old Labour is that sooner or later they always revert back to the sort of puerile stereotyping and failed policy which brought the country to its knees back in the 1970's.

So if someone has worked hard and done well for themselves you figure they should give some of their money to someone who has sat on their arse all their life?

Life isn't as simple as that Nanaman. People can fall on hard times through no fault of their own. Yes there needs to be incentives and rewards for succeeding. However depending on which family/area of the country you are born, chances are uneven from the word go. Most, even if they've done well, see the need to help those less well off. It's the idle 'inherited' rich and affluent pensioners bleeding the country dry.

Affluent pensioners?

https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...-15-report.pdf

In 2014/15, the average weekly income of a pensioner was £297, or around £15k per year.

Affluent?

Re: Labour are insane

Most have it tied up in property, income is only one element. However the 'triple lock' is unaffordable, giving free TV, bus rides etc to rich pensioners is a farce. You can be sure this won't be there when most of us retire, if we ever do.

I'd say £15k is a decent income for a pensioner, assuming they own their own house. However we obviously live in different worlds Hugh !

Personally I'm saving big time for retirement. I don't expect the state to provide or be able to afford to pay out what they currently do. Pensioners have never had it so good.

How dare they work hard, pay their tax, scrimp/save to pay their mortgage for decades and then have the audacity to own their own home and, consequently, very likely have to fund their own social care!!!
