Restart TiVo

On the Settings, there is an item Restart TiVo.

What exactly is the benefit of this ? What does it actually do ?

Restarts the box more gracefully than pulling the power...

Re: Restart TiVo

Some people don't have their equipment by the TV and instead have it off in other rooms, in that case being able to restart through the menus would be handy.

Re: Restart TiVo

I am not sure whether a re-start does more than the standard reboot. It certainly seems to be more effective at clearing the 'clicking' noise that my aging TiVo makes (which indicates that the hard drive is on its way out). Earlier reboots didn't seem to help whereas the reset did. Of course, that might just have been coincidence.

Re: Restart TiVo

Thanks everybody. It seems from your comments that the restart basically does nothing but restart TiVo.

I had it in mind that the restart behaved like a PC reboot and cleared out any hiccups and tangles that may have accumulated.

If it is just a restart, then I am not particularly interested.

Re: Restart TiVo

being a full power cycle it is synonymous with a PC reboot, memory leaks are done away with along with any Linux file system tidying up that may take place.

Re: Restart TiVo

It's also useful for those unable to get down to their box or the power socket.
