Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Sorry for the long post everyone.

My son just got a phone call from my sister in where she asked to speak to me as I have blocked her number from my house phone and all her calls from my mobile go straight to voicemail where I just delete them as I do not even listen to them anyway I hung up on her mainly due to her arrogant attitude saying what I need to do and I'm pleased to say that I told her news flash I don't need to anything! before hanging up on her.

Then my Dad phoned and asked if things could go to back how they were I said what do mean? then he said that my sister wants me to his housework, shopping and laundry and I said okay Dad but there is conditions he said anything. I said things need to change you will be coming with me to your shopping this will now be fortnightly, your housework will now be done monthly and your washing you have two choices you either learn how to use a washing machine or my sister does it.

I said I'm not being selfish Dad but I want to visit you just for the sake of visiting. I did say to him that I envied my sister just being able to have time and visit without having to do something except have a cuppa and a chat but that is also my fault at not saying enough is enough before now but I suspect now she has had a taste of what I have been doing for more years than I care to remember she crumbles just after a few weeks at how demanding he is, and I thought well blooming fantastic if that is the case.

I also said that I feel that I'm being robbed of precious time with my family at what is being expected of me rightly or wrongly and I gave him a few examples like when I never spent any time with my youngest on his birthday this year as I was the only one apparently who could take him to the hospital in the evening to visit my Mum despite the fact I had already taken him in the afternoon and we both know that was not the case as my sister went out for a meal that night, my Dad finally admitted that was not fair when I said she could have cancelled her meal but no I had to cancel my sons birthday celebrations do you think that was fair and yes Dad I am bitter about that and that was one of the many straws that broke the camel's back.

I think the penny has finally dropped just what I was and expected to do by all parties concerned and the pressure I put on myself.

Hubby said that I could have put any condition to me going back to doing the housework and shopping and my Dad would have grabbed it.

I admit it felt fantastic laying down my terms and conditions to my Dad and saying to my sister I don't need to do anything.

As Osem said "the worm has turned" at the end of the day they need me far more than I need them, it's funny I would have walked over hot coals for my Mum but then again with my Mum I now realise it was a two way street, my Mum never expected she asked and that is the difference.

After reading this post I need to point out that I will still to anything for my Dad just no longer at a drop of a hat like I was doing and if I have something on I will not be cancelling it unless it's a emergency.

Glad you enjoyed it TD as yes SSAFA are really good as they helped my Dad after his injuries when his ship got hit in the Falklands war.

Good night all round then TD you had fun and help raise money for such a worth while cause

Today we decided to go for a run with our youngest and his friend who is up from England for the summer holidays and staying with her Grandma who is also one of my friends and neighbour. Anyway we ended up in Largs and had a lovely lunch then came home.

Happy kids = Happy parents

Well, after being changed around for yesterday, my manager managed to get me back onto her job, the one I was originally on, and so I was home early last night.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Just had a text message stating that my new sofa's will arrive on Thursday between 12-7pm. I must admit I'm slightly worried about the colour choice and I'm really hoping that it will go with my colour scheme, it should as my living room has a light colour scheme or as hubby calls it plain & uncluttered whereas I like to use the wording tidy & adaptable.

The only area where I think there might be a colour clash is the stair wall since my stairs are in my living and when I mentioned this to hubby he said if I don't like it on Thursday we will go out on Thursday evening and get some paint for that wall problem solved

My son has decided to raise his target on his just giving page since he went beyond his target so quickly, he is now sitting at 87% so far he and has raised £350.00 with the new target of £400.00, tbh I think he was surprised at how quickly he raised these funds and he is truly thankful to everyone who has helped him achieve this and as his Mother I'm just so proud of him as I see just how committed he is with his training but I had to laugh when he said when at the Gym the other morning when he went at 2am he asked a guy "mate can you give me a introduction on this machine" and the man said "I'm just the cleaner" so my son replied "I think it's strange that there is no one here to show me how to use this machine" and the cleaner said "not as weird as you being here at 2am" when he told his Dad and I of this conversation he wondered why we were basically on the floor in fits of laughter.

The 2 local problem families had Noise Orders served against them to quieten their kids down during the school hols. Their screaming and yelling in the street from 7am most mornings was getting a bit annoying.

I don't know who made the complaint, but I'm glad it worked.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

You must be glad Taf although I will never understand how parents can allow their children to scream from morning to night and at the end of the day you really cannot blame the children if they have never been taught to respect or consider other people feelings. It's the same way as I don't understand how parents can allow their children out without knowing where they are and what time they will be home, maybe I'm just too strict with the boundaries I set.

My eldest is 25 this year and I expect him to let me know if he will be in for dinner, his work shift, what time to expect him in etc and he just does it. Also I have said to my son's friends drive the way you want but when you drive in my street drive slowly as children are playing and keep your music down as we have elderly residents living here and they just do it no questions asked, it's all in the up bringing.
