Funny how age is deceptive..I always think Nadal is in his late 20's...

Andy Murray's progress to the second round of the Australian Open was far from easy as he had to battle against American teenager Ryan Harrison.

The Briton started sluggishly, tamely losing the opening set before eventually prevailing 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-2.

Murray broke early in the second set and was comfortable thereafter, sealing the win in three hours and 12 minutes.

Second seed Rafael Nadal dispelled fears about his physical condition with a 6-4 6-3 6-4 win against Tommy Haas in round two of the Australian Open.

Nadal injured his right knee before the tournament but after his win he said: "I'm very happy about how it improves, I'm able to play without a problem."

Roger Federer also advanced with a walkover after his opponent Andreas Beck withdrew with a back problem

A ruthless Andy Murray completed a straightforward 6-1 6-4 6-4 victory over Edouard Roger-Vasselin to reach the third round of the Australian Open.

The British number one took just 23 minutes to win the opening set and quickly broke in the second as his 101st-ranked French opponent struggled.

The third set breakthrough did not come until the seventh game but victory always seemed inevitable for the Scot.

Murray will play France's Michael Llodra in the third round on Saturday.

Rafael Nadal showed glimpses of his very best form to make round four of the Australian Open with a crushing win against Slovak qualifier Lukas Lacko.

Nadal won 6-2 6-4 6-2 in an hour and 55 minutes and the world number two next plays John Isner or Feliciano Lopez.

Roger Federer was no less impressive in a hard-fought 7-6 (8-6) 7-5 6-3 victory over Ivo Karlovic and he will face Alexandr Dolgopolov or Bernard Tomic.

Andy Murray moved into the Australian Open last 16 as the Briton finally got the measure of France's Michael Llodra in a 6-4 6-2 6-0 win.

The Scot clung to a break in the third game of the opener, despite Llodra's pressurising forays to the net.

The Frenchman's resistance faded as his serve faltered in the second, while the third proved straightforward for Murray as fatigue put paid to Llodra.

Unseeded Kazakhstani Mikhail Kukushkin awaits Murray in the fourth round

Andy Murray reached the Australian Open quarter-finals for a third year running after Mikhail Kukushkin retired through injury while trailing 6-1 6-1 1-0.

The effects of two five-set matches in rounds two and three took their toll on Kukushkin, who pulled out with a left hip flexor problem after 49 minutes.

"It was hot on the court and it is good for me that I have conserved energy," said British number one Murray.

The fourth seed will play Kei Nishikori after he stunned Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Roger Federer will play Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals of the Australian Open after they recorded very different victories in the last eight.

Switzerland's Federer needed just under two hours to complete an imperious 6-4 6-3 6-2 win over Juan Martin Del Potro.

Nadal's 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 6-3 win over Tomas Berdych was an attritional affair, lasting four hours, 16 minutes.

Number seven seed Berdych squandered a set point for a 2-0 lead and Spaniard Nadal capitalised to take the match.

"Tired," was Nadal's reaction after the conclusion of the match. "But hopefully I am fine.

An impressive Andy Murray comfortably beat Kei Nishikori in straight sets to set up a semi-final clash against either Novak Djokovic or David Ferrer.

The British number one had little trouble completing a 6-3 6-3 6-1 win to reach the last four of the Australian Open for the third consecutive year.

"It was tough. I didn't serve well but the returning was good," said Murray.

Djokovic and Ferrer meet on Wednesday for the chance to play Murray on Rod Laver Arena at about 0830GMT on Friday.

Re: Tennis

Could this finally be the year that Murray wins a Grand Slam? I'd like it to be Wimbledon ideally, but I'd settle for any GS at all this year.

As for Sharapova, I hope she is coming back to her top form again. I'll admit it, I have a massive crush on her; and my following of her career sometimes borders on the obsessive side of things.

Yes it would be great if he can win a grand slam but his three big rivals stand in his way again l am afraid.

Rafael Nadal produced some scintillating tennis to come from one set down to beat Roger Federer and reach his second Australian Open final.

The world number two, who won the 2009 title, lost an opening set tie-break but hit back to take the next three and win 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 7-6 (7-5) 6-4.

Third seed Federer saved one match point on Nadal's serve but the Spaniard held his nerve to take it on the next.

Nadal will play either Andy Murray or Novak Djokovic in Sunday's final

Andy Murray pushed Novak Djokovic to the limit of his powers but went down in five sets to miss out on a place in the Australian Open final.

The British number one fought back from losing the first set to win the next two, and from 5-2 in the decider.

But defending champion Djokovic raised his level to battle through 6-3 3-6 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 7-5 in four hours 50 minutes.

The world number one, who beat Murray in the 2011 final, plays Rafael Nadal in Sunday's showpiece at 0830 GMT.

"I'm extremely delighted to be in another final," said Djokovic.

I feel sorry for Murray. Unfortunately for him Djokovic is just too good for him. Only marginally better though. I really wanted him (Murray) to win a major tournament. I'll be rooting for Nadal now.
