Netflix set to fight sky over film deals

There certainly do seem to be obstacles in the way, but this is a fast moving situation and I believe that within 5 years, we will see the studios giving in and a much freer environment.

In the meantime, if the Competition Commission could do something about those exclusivity deals, that would be a good start.

The future is video on demand, and now the bandwagon is rolling, I think that things will gather apace.

A bit off topic but does anyone know how much a video store, such as Blockbuster, has to pay for a rental DVD? I understand that whilst we can buy the DVD release of say Mission Impossible 4 for £12.99, the rental copy will be significantly higher.

I remember I rented Police Academy 3 back in 1986 and lost the rental copy of the video tape. The video store was able to claim another copy through their insurance but the guy who owned the store told me it cost him between £60 to £80 for each rental copy of a video he purchased and that was 25 years ago! I paid £10 for a ex-rental copy of Return Of The Jedi from his store in about 1987.
