Rodney Bewes has died aged 79, his agent has confirmed.
The actor had a career spanning six decades and is best known for playing Bob Ferris in sitcom The Likely Lads.
His agent issued a statement saying: "It is with great sadness that we confirm that our dear client, the much-loved actor Rodney Bewes, passed away this morning."
Really sad, tremendously underrated actor.

Wonder if his stuck up co-star in the Likely Lads (James Bolam) will make up with him now (all a bit late if so).

Indeed he was a very fine actor and will be sorely missed.

Re: RIP Rodney Bewes

I used to enjoy this show, Terrible when two people can put on a great show and they have do not get on in real life, They both lost a lot of money because the repeats were not shown ,so what was point,

Re: RIP Rodney Bewes

But at least we were spared the repeats. I don't want to (compulsorily) pay £150 a year to see reruns from the 1960's so that present-day BBC staff can get paid 10 times what they're worth. The humour is aged anyway.

RIP Rodney.

Thing is aged humour is better than the crap we get these days. Dad's Army, Steptoe and Son, Only Fools much repeated, but only because they were great and we don't have anything better.
Likely Lads was one of those rare programmes where the sequel, Whatever Happened to the Likely Lad was better than the original. It really would have been great to see them as old men in a one off, but unfortunately they fell out big time. James Bolam thought he was above it all. Bewes was a thoroughly nice bloke, met him once on a theatre tour, would talk to anyone, even me !

Fair enough but if you like the old stuff, buy the DVD. We pay a license fee every year; I don't want to pay over and over for the same thing.
