Yeah I realised that a while after posting it - forgot this thread was talking about FTTC

To be fair BenMcr you're making it seem like VM are VERY worried about Sky's fibre product. You know as well as anyone else Sky's selling point is not speed but the fact it is 100% unlimited.

It's clearly not speed with latest monthly results giving Sky an average of 5.766Mbps and Virgin 19.633Mbps. Being '100% unlimited' has not attracted the masses to Sky either with the average Virgin customer downloading more than those of any major rival including Sky (49GB of data per month compared to a UK average of 17GB).

Sky's selling point up until now has been the ability to offer free (2GB/month usage) or low cost (was up to 20Mb, now only allowed to claim up to 14Mb, actual speed likely to be less than 10Mb) broadband to the subscribers of its incumbent pay-TV service compared to Virgin's up to entry level 10Mb (now 30Mb, actual speed closer to 31Mb). So in marketing terms Sky was misleadingly claiming to offer up to twice the speed of Virgin's basic product but if it still wants to quote speeds is now been forced to market it as less than half the speed of Virgin's basic offering which is why, like many others, they're now too ashamed to even mention the speed in most of their marketing.

With FTTC, Sky has completely lost that pricing advantage and is now similarly priced (or more expensive) than rival super-fast broadband operators.

Sky is allegedly about to launch Fibre Pro with the increased speeds

http://www.skyuser.co.uk/skyinfo/sky...fibre_pro.html

I hope it is true, and of course unlimited, although I await with baited breath!

Re: Sky BB fibre product

No reason they wouldn't. It's a marketing decision.

Core network links are generally symmetrical so for every 80mbps download capacity they have they also have 80mbps upload capacity.

It's for New to Fibre customers only.
Existing non-Fibre customers can get it if they upgrade to the Fibre service.
Existing Fibre customers cannot upgrade for a few months until an upgrade process is brought in.
