1megaBIT = 128kBYTES

bits and bytes are different.

Re: what does 1 meg broadband realy mean ?

That is 120 kilobytes persecond, which is about right for 1 Meg give or take a few bytes. There are 8 bits in a byte, so multiply one by the other.

Also remember that different sites will download at different speeds. You will have to be lucky to get consistent full speed downloads.

Re: what does 1 meg broadband realy mean ?

It's a common advertising ploy, most people assume 1meg is one megabyte (in this context), whereas it is in fact one megabit.
There are 8 bits in a byte, therefore one megabit is about an eighth of one megabyte (120k)

Re: what does 1 meg broadband realy mean ?

Now I know that it is a 1 megabit not byte connection, so why oh why oh why does ch 666 on Sky (NTLs ad channel) insist on saying 1 MegaBYTE broadband as part of the 3 for £30 package??????

If I wasn't worried about being so pedantic (doesn't usually stop me BTW )I'd ring 0800 183 5555 and ask for an 8x speed increase.

Because it's a universal truth that sales staff (generalising) tend to know little technical information about their products.
Even when they do know about the products, they like to talk them up a bit.

looks like the person who wrote the scripts doesn't know the products either, that's 4 presenters using MegaBYTE.

I dare anyone to watch the channel and not cringe every 2 minutes

Arrrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhh Remote Control with red button, that was half the reason I left NTL's TV for $ky+. Is this channel for real???

I suppose it does have a red button though they dont say it's red as a warning to not press it.
