THE curtain came down on the venerable career of sprinter The Tatling in the best possible style at Wolverhampton on Monday afternoon as the remarkable 14-year-old got up late to win his last race.

"He is a star in everyone's eyes that know him and I've had people calling me after already and saying what a wonderful way to go out. There must have been so many people that must have known about him.

Owner Darren Hudson-Wood added: "I nearly cried a second ago. I didn't expect him to be in the first five to be honest with you. It's absolutely incredible and justifies going out like that. Thank you to Mr Bradley for everything involved with the horse."

In total The Tatling won £687,763 in win and place prize-money. He raced at 31 racecourses in Britain as well as racing in Ireland, France and Hong Kong. He was ridden by 37 jockeys, ten of them winning on him since being first seen in action at Newmarket in May 1999.

KAUTO STAR has been confirmed to bid for his fifth William Hill King George VIChase at Kempton on December 26, which sets up a Christmas cracker between himself, Long Run and dual Champion Chase-winner Master Minded.

"Ruby isn't going to get off Kauto Star, and Daryl will be aboard Master Minded. Long Run will probably come on for the run, but he's still got eight lengths to find."

DAVID PIPE feels Dynaste deserves the chance to take on hurdling sensation Big Buck's at Ascot on Saturday.

Pipe told his website: "It is a huge ask to beat Big Buck's, but we will be giving it our best shot. Dynaste is an improving young stayer who more than deserves his place in the line-up.

EXETER, Kelso and Perth have become the first racecourses to
switch camps with their television and betting shop broadcasting rights. From May 1 until 2018 they will appear on Racing UK's subscription channel and TurfTV's service to bookmakers.

Their defection at the end of contracts with At The Races and
SIS will increase RUK's portfolio to 33 tracks out of 60 and TurfTV's to 34, since it took on Ascot, which is aligned with ATR, when fully breaking the SIS monopoly from January 1, 2008

Four jockeys are among 11 people to have been found guilty of corruption by the British Horseracing Authority.

The verdicts were delivered on Wednesday as the BHA published the findings of its long-running investigation into race-fixing in 2009.

With the exception of Doe and Fairley, all those found guilty could be banned for up to 10 years.

JOCKEYS Paul Doe, Greg Fairley, Kirsty Milczarek and Jimmy Quinn have been banned for a combined total of over 26 years after being found in breach of the BHA's corruption rules.

Doe and Fairley, who were found guilty of committing the most serious offence of not riding a horse to its merits along with breaching two other rules, were banned for 12 years each. Both quit the saddle earlier this year.

Milczarek has been hit with a two-year ban for passing on information for reward and committing fraudulent or corrupt practice, while Quinn received a six-month ban for his part in the conspiracy.

Doe was found guilty of riding non-triers on two occasions, with Fairley one ride. Both were found guilty of passing on information for reward and corrupt or fraudulent practice.

All penalties come into effect from Thursday, December 15 and all those found guilty have seven days to appeal against their bans but are excluded from the sport during that period.

“We take no pleasure in uncovering such serious breaches of the rules of racing. However, the findings of the disciplinary panel vindicate the hard work of BHA’s integrity and compliance teams. In the BHA’s history, the scale and complexity of this case is unprecedented."

Legendary stayer Big Buck's will face six rivals as he bids to stretch his unbeaten run over timber to 14 in the Lough Derg Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday.

Big Buck's has won the last two renewals of the Long Walk, but they have both been run at Newbury.

David Pipe would love nothing better than to claim the race named in honour of one of his former stable stars and saddles Dynaste.

Professional Jockeys Association chief executive Kevin Darley has warned riders to be careful of the company they keep in the wake of the latest corruption scandal to engulf the sport.

"It's disappointing for the sport," said Darley, who was a jockey for 30 years and won Group One races all over the world, including the St Leger.

He said: "Jockeys are very personable people, when they walk to the paddock they are exposed to everybody and you can literally be talking to anybody and everybody.

"Ever since the betting exchanges have been around, punters and the general public can bet on a horse to lose, which is something that is quite new to our sport and jockeys have to be wary of anyone who is trying to seek negative information."

"Obviously it doesn't look great, but day-to-day punters know the score and recognise that the vast majority of the sport is clean," said George Primarolo, spokesman for Betfred, who recently took over the Tote.

Totepool Novices' Chase (Registered as Noel Novices' Chase) (Grade 2) 4yo+, 2m3f

OVER two years after he last crossed the line in front Zaynar bounced back to form in brilliant fashion at Ascot where he ran out a clear-margin winner of a competitive novice chase.

In the process he had surrendered a reputation as one of the game's most exciting young hurdlers and replaced it with a certain notoriety that a change of stable - moving to Nick Williams from Nicky Henderson - and discipline did little to assuage.

"He's travelled and jumped really well," said Reveley. "He was very cute and knew exactly what he was doing.

Mitie Kennel Gate Novices' Hurdle (Grade 2) 2m, 4yo+

MOLOTOF survived a mistake at the last to land the Mitie Kennel Gate Novices' Hurdle, a race in which 10-11 favourite Hazy Tom lost his unbeaten record.

William Hill inserted the winner at 20-1 for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle, but trainer Nicky Henderson might have other targets at the Cheltenham Festival.

JOCKEY Robert Thornton has been ruled out for up to three months with the arm injury he suffered at Hereford last Sunday.

Thornton, who is stable jockey to trainer Alan King, said on Friday: "I've been advised by Mr Keys [Richard Keys, consultant] that I'll be out for three months. But I'm a quick healer and I'll be doing everything possible to be back within seven weeks, perhaps six.

Lough Derg Long Walk Hurdle (Grade 1) 3m 1f, 4yo+

BIG BUCK'S stretched his unbeaten sequence to 14 with a typically nonchalant victory in the Long Walk Hurdle

Bookmakers were clearly impressed with this effort and he wascut to 4-7 (from 4-5) by William Hill to win the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival for a fourth successive year.

Walsh, who has now won on Big Buck's on 14 times said: "He is an incredible horse. He is an incredible stayer with loads of pace. He is mature and growing up. Going right-handed is not an issue nowadays, it might have been three years ago but he is such a more mature horse now it is incredible."

CANNINGTON BROOK just managed to hold off the late rally of Our Island in boggy conditions as the pair finished 31 lengths clear of the rest with the longest race on the card producing the closest finish

WAYNE HUTCHINSON excelled aboard Raya Star, giving the 12-1 winner a peach of a ride as they overhauled Rigidity and Alarazi after the last in a Ladbroke Hurdle run at a surprisingly slow pace

Winning trainer Alan King added: "After the Gerry Feilden we thought this was the right place to go. A lot of the credit must go to Choc [Robert Thornton], whose been the making of him.

THE MINACK capped a wonderful day for trainer Paul Nicholls and jockey Ruby Walsh when running out the winner of the Silver Cup.

BOSTON BOB took a giant step up at Navan on Sunday as he won his first Grade 1 on just his second start over hurdles, having won his hurdling debut in a maiden last month.

"He relished the trip and will probably go up in the new year. He'll be entered in both the Neptune and Albert Bartlett [at the Cheltenham Festival]."

ZAIDPOUR, the winner of last season's Grade 1 Royal Bond Novice Hurdle who failed to live up to expectations for the remainder of the term, looks to be heading back in the right direction after a ten-length romp in the Tara Hurdle.

RACING has attracted its highest profile new owner in years with the news that Wayne Rooney will have a two-year-old in training with Tom Dascombe in 2012.

Apart from the occasional day out at Chester, Rooney has previously not shown a great interest in racing, until a month or so ago when teammate Michael Owen invited him to Manor House Stables, the yard that he owns in partnership with Betfair co-founder Andrew 'Bert' Black, and where the Rooneys' first horse will be trained.

STAYING hurdle hero Big Buck's will not run again until Cheltenham in March, when he will bid to win the Ladbrokes World Hurdle for an unprecedented fourth consecutive time.

Nicholls said: “Big Buck’s won’t run again until Cheltenham. Andy [Stewart, owner] and I had a chat on Saturday night and we’vedecided to do what we did last year, which means just giving him a racecourse gallop before the World Hurdle to sharpen him up.

TRAINER Rodolphe Collet has revealed that triple Sun Chariot Stakes winner Sahpresa has been retired to owner Teruya Yoshida's Shadai Farm in Japan.

Sahpresa won five Group races in as many campaigns and it was her unique hat-trick in the Kingdom of Bahrain-sponsored Sun Chariot at Newmarket which cemented her place in the record books.

KAUTO STAR has been cut to 3-1 for the William Hill King George VI Chase by both Paddy Power and Coral after it was revealed he will face just seven rivals as he bids to become the first horse in history to win Kempton's December 26 feature for a fifth time.

Long Run, a general 5-4 favourite to register successive wins in the Christmas showpiece, will again lock horns with Kauto Star and Smith is relishing the opportunity to take on the Nicky Henderson-trained Gold Cup winner once again. "It's going to be a great racing moment. Obviously, I'm nervous for the horses' welfare but I love thrilling races and I'm all for it," Smith told At The Races on Tuesday.

THE BHA on Tuesday concluded the most complex anti-corruption investigation in its history by banning the father-and-son team of Peter and Nick Gold for five years and seven years respectively.

The resulting exclusion orders bring to 78.5 years the total bans arising from the investigation and subsequent 11-day inquiry from which the longest punishments, of 14 years each, were handed down to former owners Maurice Sines and James Crickmore.

OWNER Robert Waley-Cohen is confident Long Run can turn the tableson Kauto Star in Monday's mouthwatering William Hill King George VI Chase at Kempton.

Despite the Betfair Chase result, bookmakers still favour Long Run - a general 5-4 chance - for the King George with Kauto Star a top-priced 4-1 with Ladbrokes and Waley-Cohen thinks that is about right.

HAYDOCK and Betfair have teamed up to commission a statue of Kauto Star to recognise the brilliant chaser's achievements at the track.

Trainer Paul Nicholls added: "Kauto Star gave me my proudest day in 20 years as a trainer when he won his fourth Betfair Chase and this is deserved recognition for the great horse. It will be a constant reminder of that amazing day."

Haydock's managing director, Dickon White, reflecting on this year's race, said: "Everyone who was at the racecourse last month to see his victory will recall the race vividly for the rest of their lives. It was truly one of the most outstanding performances by a racehorse in the modern era."

MADISON DU BERLAIS, whose Hennessy Gold Cup success proved the highlight of a sparkling career, has been retired after his form tailed off.

Kauto Star and Long Run are set for a mouth-watering clash in the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.

The 11-year-old Kauto Star is aiming to win a record fifth title after he and stablemate Master Minded were confirmed by trainer Paul Nicholls on Tuesday.

McCoy added: "Kauto's win in Haydock was a great spectacle for horseracing. He's been an amazing horse, he's won four King Georges and is just an absolute superstar.

"People normally get behind the reigning champion, they want to see a great champ, and see him confirm that he is the real thing, but on this occasion everyone wants to see the old boy have a last hurrah and win for an unprecedented fifth time in the King George," said Waley-Cohen, whose son Sam rides the horse.
