Question Dial tone with pauses

Hi

I'm back with Virgin now as moved to a house that is cabled.

I have a question regarding the landline phone line. The dial tone is not a constant tone but is punctuated by a pause every second. Would there be any feature/ service on the line? It has been like this since the second the line was activated by the installer last week.

TIA

Could be a Voicemail message or network service such as divert active.

Try dialling 1571 to see if there is a message waiting. Failing that try *#001# (works on some exchanges to tell if any diverts or barring are active).

HTH.

Re: Dial tone with pauses

So you're getting a 'busy' tone?

As said above, it will be voicemail or call divert. Some switches have a permanent broken tone when voicemail is active, going to a faster tone when there is a message waiting.

Others only have a broken tone when a message is waiting for you.
