Exclamation SSL leak at shopto!!

Apparently shopto and some other sites have had credit card info stolen from them!

(19000 card details i read somewhere)

All the info is here;

http://www.eurogamer.net/forum_threa...read_id=145815

I e-mailed them earlier and they said nothing leaked from them, sounds shifty to me.

Won't be ordering from them again,

I do hope this turns out to be false. I shall be keeping a close eye on my account though just in case. I often order from shopto.net and hope I can continue to do so without fear of fraud.

Thanks for the heads-up anyway SB_07.

No problem. Keep an eye on your bank account more than anything. I have read a couple of times that nothing was taken from shopto, but still better to keep an eye out then get done in.

Yeah I sure will do, thats what I meant when I said account. I didnt mean shopto account I meant bank account lol. Real shame if they have had any details stolen because they were really stating to make a big name for themselves but I guess thats possibly what makes them a target to

Re: SSL leak at shopto!!

http://forum.shopto.net/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4910

The original article that was then translated to german didnt even have shopto.net in it! Dont know where that came from. But these guys have been very open about everything before, so Im inclined to trust them. But it doesnt hurt to keep an eye out on your account

Just a quote from them

"THis is from a old article on 20th March, 2009 what has been mistranslated to german and put on a website.

As the original article this breach is nothing to do with Shopto.net and we take our security very seriously.

The orignal article is here which you will see has no mention of Shopto.net it is a generic 19k of cards found (22k in total). A defunct payment gateway(This could be Paypal, Protx, Visa, Mastercard and so on..) has exposed as many as 19,000 credit card numbers. You will also see that it includes cards like American Express that we do not even cater for.

We ask people to be assured their has been no breach in our security their just has in this case been a mistranslation from English to German and back again.

As a matter of course today we check as we always do everyday our SSL security and upgrade if and when necessary to do so. We found it prudent today with the alarm what has come out from a misinterpreted German article to just update the SSL as a matter of course automatically.

The original article before mistranslation from 20th March 2009.."

wether you believe it or not, is up to you.

Re: SSL leak at shopto!!

Ordered from them this week with no problems. From what I've heard it may not have been as true as was made out. Either way I shall be keeping a closer eye on my account as I said before.

Sorry to see you had a couple problems with your account m8.

Re: SSL leak at shopto!!

Intresting, I got an email from Shopto today about they are changing there security policy and that no CC info will be stored anymore execpt for accounts that currently have per-orders on which after there's will be removed also.

Does seem a bit strange I'll admit. Did you bank sort it out for you SB_07 ?

Glad to hear it. Banks are usually good at helping you deal with things like this.

Re: SSL leak at shopto!!

Hello, sorry to register just to post on this thread. But I do feel the need to let people know of my experience. I am also one of the people who had some O2 top up, amongst other things purchased via my credit card.

I have more reasons to suspect ShopTo than the average victim. The reason being, I used ShopTo with my backup credit card I hardly ever use (the reason being, I couldn't register my main credit card with ShopTo). I've only used that credit card for 3 transactions, all in recent months in over a year. Two of those transactions were with ShopTo. And one with DotEasy. ShopTo would have been my primary suspect, not because everyone else think it's them, but because I renewed two domains with DotEasy one with my main credit card, and the other with my backup defrauded credit card. And it just seems somehow odd that only one credit card, the one which happens to be used with ShopTo happens to be defrauded.

To my banks credit, they detected those fraudulent transactions and blocked the worst ones (and after a phone call stopped the other ones too). I hope you do not mind that I made an account mainly to talk about my experience this e-tailer (which I was initially impressed with). You may see this post posted elsewhere, but no I am not a bot, and I hope that you will not disregard this as pointless spam.
