Do i need a new modem ?

I currently have an ntl 200 home modem which i've had for over 4 years. Was previously on 4 meg but have supposedly been upgraded to 10 meg.Went to my parents house (who live at the end of the rd from me) last night and they have just joined virgin on 10 meg and their download speeds put mine to shame. Was wondering as my modem is getting on if it was able to handle the 10 meg speeds ? Just ran speedtest.net and only getting 2332 kb/s download and 472 kb/s upload.

Open a browser and in the address bar put or click the link > http://192.168.100.1/ the password and username are both root if required.

What I want you to post is the Downstream power levels including the SNR and the Upstream power levels for me thanks.

DO NOT POST YOUR MAC ADDRESS OR SERIAL NUMBER

If you are a Virgin Media customer then the best speedtest is from the link below.

Have you tried going to this link to check your speeds http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/

click on blueyondergames>demos>then click on at least 2 large files around 400/500 mb and save them to your desktop, and then wait a couple of minutes then write down the transfer rates on the files that are running > times them by 8 and you will get a truer download speed.

Remember to stop and delete the files.

i.e : 250kbps X 8 = 2MB, 500kbps X 8 = 4MB, 1250kbps X 8 = 10MB, 2500kbps X 8 = 20MB

The power levels are fine but as it is a speed issue, could you try the speed test I posted above, it is the same one you would be asked to do if you called in to Tech Support.

Please post the results as well.

Well that sounds like you are getting less than 4mb and if you have rebooted your modem since the upgrade then you need to call Tech Support about your speeds.
