laptop problem

Any idea why my laptop keeps turning on then off every two seconds? It won't boot at all. The on off cycling happens at bios POST. This happens whether I use battery or power whether the battery is in or out. I guess it could be a motherboard problem but not sure.

It's an Acer 7520.

Re: laptop problem

Can you enter the bios menu at all or does the restart cycle before you can press any keys?

Sounds like it's failing on self checking one of the subsystems so maybe chipset related or best case perhaps a dodgy memory stick so I wonder if you have tried elimineting the latter assuming you have more than one module?

Re: laptop problem

also does it beep at all when it's booting? if it is go check the website for the meaning of the beeps, generally it's something like, 1 beep power failure, 2 beeps processor failure, 3 for memory - that sort of thing

Re: laptop problem

It doesn't get to bios nor can I see anything on the screen. There are no bleeps at all. I've tried removing memory and swapping it and with no memory. No change. Not looking good..

Good point, I've had to replace chargers a number of times as they get left plugged in for months on end.

Although unless you have another identical laptop lying around and spare battery's / charges it's hard to know which is broke.

Do the lights on front light up at all when it's plugged in?

Re: laptop problem

Try taking out the battery then attempt a startup with just mains connected to see if you get any signs of life.
