Looking to buy a Freeview + Box with recording capability

Hey guys, parents are migrating to BT Vision sometime soon, but I cant have a vision+ box yet as BT havent gone multiroom. So im looking at getting a freeview + box and wondered whether you guys could help me out. now I have been looking at Amazon and Comet at reviews but they seem mixed. I am prepared to pay upto £120, and could someone also explain what the advantages of top up TV are and what you get extra?

TIA

Re: Looking to buy a Freeview + Box with recording capability

I'd be wary of forking out for Freeview equipment at present. There's far more bandwidth on Freesat, and Freeview will struggle with bandwidth for HD channels. You might be better off putting the money towards a dish and getting a PVR at a later date.

Plus if you want the HD channels launching "soon" on Freeview you need to get a Freeview HD+ box. If you are on sky now why not go Freesat and move the sat feed to your room and leave the BT vision for your parents?

Re: Looking to buy a Freeview + Box with recording capability

Top-up TV is basicly a video-on-demand service using the Freeview platform. There are several packages of entertainment, movies & sports. Twin tuner Thompson PVR's are provided as programmes are downloaded overnight. There are only two linear channels provided (Home & GOLD) in addition to normal Freeview. ESPN is also available. Although the month-by-month contract is attractive, the offering is fairly limited compared to the satellite/cable and IPTV alternatives.
