Bluetooth remote good, no need to point it at box, hey you could even have the box hidden away if that's what you like.

Have yet to try the full streaming capabilities, apparently we can pause the current playback and pick up on a tablet (iPad in our case) via the TvAnywhere App.

On a slightly off topic. Do most people have access to the new 3.0 hub? As having had the hub and V6 box installed today they seem to be designed to work together?
Does the new box have its own coaxial cable or does it receive it's signal by WiFi from your super hub 3?

Re: Virgin Media V6 - Powered by TiVo(new STB)

I would imagine a coaxial cable is used.

If it's using Wi-Fi and your internet goes down, you wouldn't be able to watch any TV.

The same thing happens with Sky Q multiroom boxes. If there is no internet, these boxes cannot be used, but the main Sky Q box is wired to the dish so will still be ok.

Yes has it's own coaxial connection, but also has wifi connection to superhub. Nifty little speedtest app in help for checking speed of connection between V6 and SuperHub 3.0

.
In an ideal world the TV coax would also have the option of going into the SH meaning the wifi for the tv box would still work if the internet went down. Maybe something for a future SH.

This report claims that there will be a new user interface on the new V6 set top box.

That is a very brief reference to a new UI. In fact they could claim that the recent update, that seems to have caused all the slow responses to the remote, is in fact a new UI.

This means that, unlike Sky where any slave boxes require only a connection to the mains, each additional Tivo will require a full installation and require a coaxial cable run to each box. One of the plus points for Sky Q is that each additional box can be located anywhere in the home where there is a decent wifi signal, is very easy to add on, can be installed by the customer and can in fact be easily moved.

Unless There is a Tivo slave box yet to be announced?

And if you're on Sky Broadband, they may not work very often lol

Re: Virgin Media V6 - Powered by TiVo(new STB)

The V6 is connected with the coaxial cable but if you want to use any of the interactive services it has to be connected to a modem. If you want pictures on your TV guide open the guide and push the green button on your remote it then gives you the option to turn them off or on.

Yes, it could be read in two different ways, I guess.

Was more of a tongue-in-cheeky remark

But, from family member's experience with Sky Broadband, they used to have a lot of problems and outages.

The old Sky hub wireless performance was dreadful it wasn't even dual band thankfully the WiFi coverage of the new Sky Q hub is much improved however why it only has two ethernet ports is anyone's guess considering most of its competitors routers have at least four. I use Sky Fibre thankfully I've not suffered any down time yet , hopefully I haven't now jinxed myself.

Is the new Hub 3.0 required for the V6 to be connected to or does it work with older VM Hubs ?

Re: Virgin Media V6 - Powered by TiVo(new STB)

Apologies if this has already been addressed - I did a search but couldn't find a clear answer. I've read on this forum that the new box has a bluetooth remote. Does anyone yet know whether, despite this, it will respond to infrared commands?

I have a Harmony remote that controls all my equipment and if the V6 won't play nicely with it, it would be a show stopper for me.

Cheers,

Cliff
