10mb, i dont think so....
We were upgraded to NTLs 10mb service, but its more like 1mb, so slow browsing, websites constantly unavailable and it seems the Terayon modem doesnt support the speed either.
This is what we are getting on a good day
Sun, 6 Aug 2006 12:16:20 UTC
1st 512K took 671 ms = 763 KB/sec, approx 6287 Kbps, 6.14 Mbps
2nd 512K took 701 ms = 730.4 KB/sec, approx 6018 Kbps, 5.88 Mbps
3rd 512K took 1032 ms = 496.1 KB/sec, approx 4088 Kbps, 3.99 Mbps
4th 512K took 671 ms = 763 KB/sec, approx 6287 Kbps, 6.14 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 5670 Kbps, 5.54 Mbps
There is nothing else connected, only the cable modem
Is there any way of improving this or are we better off getting it downgraded to 4mb?
Thanks

Try that test again, results can vary significantly over the course of 24 hours

I have a TJet. I get just over 8Mbps most of the time. Admittedly that's not the full 10meg but it's good enough to stop me thinking about shelling out £50 to our money grabbing provider.

Make sure to use Ethernet instead of USB.
Some firewalls can slow your speed. If you have Zone Alarm, a known badboy, then you must completely uninstall it. For others, try running with just the windows firewall and see if there's a difference.
For slow browsing, try changing your proxy.

yes hes right, zonealarm CAN slow your connection down, so best to uninstall and replace it with another firewall.
the terayon can only give you a maximum of 8024kbps, you need to ring NTL for a new modem, there still is the standing charge of £50.

Good that it works for you then Jack001.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work properly for many other people judging by the reports posted in threads on the Forum.
Over the years I have used a PC ZA has proved to be the cause behind most of the obscure and seemingly unrelated issues I have heard about.
So much so that I would not entertain installing ANY ZA product.

Re: 10mb, i dont think so....
hmm well 1MBit = 1024000bps, times that by 8, at least that is the correct figure in my books, oh well.

You may want to give KERIO FIREWALL ago. A little tip, turn Enable Web Filtering off then you should be able to get good results on the speed test.
