Re: business cable 4mb?

What exactly are the criteria they set as to what constitutes a business ?

I can see an awful lot of one man bands springing up in the near future :p

Knowing this lot it will turn out to be no better than the substandard service we have at the moment.

But higher priority bandwith, so your speed should be better.

I would like to know why you would be willing to pay a minimum of £165 per month for your broadband though!

Your bandwith gets higher priority over other "normal" customers on the ubr, thus you get more of the speed.

Business users always get higher priority, and a higher contention ratio i believe (always less or 20:1)

Contention is the number of times your bandwidth is sold... i.e. if you have a 20Mb connection and a 20:1 contention ratio then 20 different households could be sharing 'your' 20Mb.

The contention ratio is 12:1 for business cable modems but is rarely a factor.

Re: business cable 4mb?

I wonder if an insider can confirm whether business cable modems actually do get some form of higher priority service on the UBR or whether VM only claim the contention ratio based upon the traffic during "normal" business hours (when domestic traffic is light) and also because they might avoid offering the business service on overloaded UBRs.

Re: business cable 4mb?

Does the business service get special treatment in terms of installation over and above residential? By that, I mean, would they be prepared to dig up a pathway of say 3m to install?
