Mass shooting in Turkey leaves at least 39 dead

Suspected terrorist attack on a Turkish nightclub on New Years Eve leaves 39 dead and up to 69 wounded.

Media blackout in Turkey at present

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-38481521

Sources claim they were warned of attack by CIA. However, apparently Turkish police dress up as Santa over the festive period and the attacker likewise. Was just told that by a Turkish source, he also said Special forces were guarding the local area, at least I think that's what he means. So if there was a tip off they may have acted on it but failed.

Not sure if its a verified ISIS attack but its looking very similar to Paris.

Wonder what the motive for this attack is. Terrible really. Just appalling what some people will do in the name of one cause or another with no idea who their victims even are in most cases. Sadly there's no answer to this sort of thing.

Kurds, under the banner of the PKK, have killed thousands in Turkey over many years. Their desire is to set up Kurdistan with parts of Turkey, Iraq and Syria.

Yes, it could well be. In my youth I spent a fair bit of time working in the Batman region of Turkey and was left in no doubt about the serious animosity the Kurds had towards the Turkish even then. It's got worse since oil was discovered too for obvious reasons.

Re: Mass shooting in Turkey leaves at least 39 dead

There has been a very lucrative business for the Kurds smuggling oil products into Turkey. A lot of them are now used to the extra cash, and are fighting to keep the illegal business going. Tighter border controls by the Turkish government are upsetting them, so they are lashing out like the criminals they are.

And Erdogan (Putin 2) is really winding them up with his autocratic style of government.

Re: Mass shooting in Turkey leaves at least 39 dead

It appears ISIS is claiming responsibility for this latest atrocity.
