Getting files off V+ HDD

I know it's a long shot, and I don't think it's possible but want to give it a go.

my V+ HD box stopped working very well, needed powering off and on each morning, as the clock would freeze during the night some time.

phoned up virgin, they sent a "new" one, and don't want the old one back, so I took it apart, was wondering if there's a way to read the files on the standard SATA full soze HDD? WIndows detected the partitions on it in management, but couldn't read them.

so before I take apart my old desktop to put the HDD in that and try to use gparted live or some other Linux to read it, am I wasting time?

woudl be nice to get the TV shows off it I recorded which hadn't got round to watching

btw I know the "proper" method is to just record of the box while it's playing, but it's a bit late for that now as the other box is installed under the TV

thanks

Pretty sure this has been asked before a long time ago, IIRC the answer was that it's not possible.

Re: getting files off V+ HDD

Correct, the files are encrypted. You couldn't even put it in another V+ to read the files as each box has unique encryption keys.
