Transparent proxy?

I thought all the transaprent proxies for browsing were gone in 2007 according to wikipedia.

Today browsing, a site gave me a download limit for 62.30.249.130 which is not my ip, that is 82.25.1xx.xx

tracert 62.30.249.130

Tracing route to pc-62-30-249-130-ha.blueyonder.co.uk [62.30.249.130]

2 8 ms 17 ms 27 ms 10.237.140.1
3 74 ms 25 ms 20 ms cosh-t2cam1-b-v118.inet.ntl.com [80.3.162.221]

9 22 ms 37 ms 21 ms pc-62-30-249-130-ha.blueyonder.co.uk [62.30.249.130]

Trace complete.

Anyone know how I can avoid this transparent proxy?

Re: Transparent proxy?

You are not routing via a proxy, esp one based on the old Telewest network, since you are on the old ntl network.

I can't see how this download site could get an IP which is unrelated to my connection but part of the old network.

You appear to be on a Virgin Media Connection
Your IP address is 82.25.xxx.xx

Re: Transparent proxy?

I've seen that once or twice before, always with an odd-looking route that crosses blueyonder from ntl - anything crossing that route, seems to pick up a wrong IP.

9 99 ms 87 ms 86 ms 10gigabitethernet2-3.core1.nyc4.he.net [72.52.92.77]

It can make a direct path via gsr12012.lon.he.net [195.66.224.21] though that address follows yet another route if traced directly, looks like a right old peering screwup, with indirect paths being preferred to a direct interchange - that whole section of routing is a mess.

Re: Transparent proxy?

Just tried that site and got the same error, and the same IP mentioned (62.30.249.130). As I am ex ntl, and in a totally different area to you, I would hazard a guess that the site has a horrifically bad method of IP identification. The only thing I suggest is emailing their support and telling them to get a clue really.

Re: Transparent proxy?

Sorry for hijacking but relevantish.. Eth/WDINAT - I have been using renf-cache-9.server.ntli.net as a proxy for a loooooooooong time now. It must have still been working as here shows: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/19...et-access.html but now this seems to have stopped as from yesterday. Now I'm back to slow loading pages, time-outs and images drawing a line at a time. Gutted. renfrew was a great connection.
Any quick fix solutions? (bagu.broadband.ntl.com)
