BT line on caravan site
I have been trying to get a phone line put into my static caravan on a large site but BT are wanting £1100 to put one in. There was a BT armoured cable sticking out of the ground near my caravan, so I asked the site if I could dig it in and connect it to my pitch. They said yes as long as I put it down at least a foot and made the ground good again, which I did. I connected the internal wiring and had a dial tone.
I then rang BT who said they would have to send out a surveyor. He came and plugged into my phone point and took the number which used to be allocated to it and said he would get back to me. About an hour later he rang back and told me the line belonged to a caravan pitch next to mine and I would have to take it out immediately. There is no caravan on the other pitch and very few people on here even want a phone line. He said that it could be changed physically to become my phone line but they wouldn`t do it. Is there anything I can do?

Re: BT line on caravan site
Get a BGAN unit, you can then have VoIP phone and internet where ever you go

Re: BT line on caravan site
Before you do dig up the ground on the camp site, get it in wrighting.
make sure you put it back better than you removed it.

Re: BT line on caravan site
Only option here is BT. No VM in the area. (Heysham).
Really need decent speed broadband whilst I`m here for Xbox as well.
Cheers for the reply guys. Can`t understand how I can now have a line which I moved that has a dial tone but because it belonged to an old caravan on the next pitch that isn`t there any more they won`t let me have!!!!!!!!!!

Re: BT line on caravan site
Probably because each line is paired to a location, it's not upto you to move the line from that location as you have no rights to that adjoining pitch. It's upto the pitch owner to transfer it to you..

Re: BT line on caravan site
Thanks for that, but as there is no caravan on that pitch how could the owner transfer that line?

Re: BT line on caravan site
A caravan on there or not is irrelavant, who owns the pitch should be the question you need to find out the answer to

Re: BT line on caravan site
Then talk to the site, get it on official site heading that the pitch the telephone line goes to has no current occupier and that they give you the rights to that line. BT then will have to recheck the stituation

Re: BT line on caravan site
Failing that.
How difficult would it be to move your caravan to the vacant, adjacent pitch?
I know it's a ridiculous suggestion, but it may yet be considerably easier than trying to reason with BT.
They have enough trouble sorting (or not sorting) something like a simple billing issue.
You really shouldn't be taxing them like this!

Re: BT line on caravan site
lol. Yes sorry if your bills are wrong this quater due to my stressing BT`s meager infrastructure.
Thought about moving pitch as it would be only half the cost, but then I have just done up all the front of our existing one, flagging and fencing.
Mobile broadband is not much good to me as I need to download and by son would like his Xbox on the internet to play games with his friends whilst he is up here.
May try to see if the site will transfer the line to me.
Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated
