Best Hard drive imaging software?
Hi all. Need to replace a Hard drive in my neighbours sons laptop, whats the best imaging software to use please? Acronis or maybe Ghost?
Going from a 160 gig drive to a new 160 gig drive, Vista Home Premium loaded.

Being a Linux fan, I use partimage off the SystemRescueCD - free of course
Are you going to backup to an external USB drive?

Forgive my ignorance, Isn`t that for Linux or does it work for all operating systems?
I`ll be backing up to an external usb drive mate ta.

Acronis for me. It'll be slow to image to usb, much better to cobble up a proper ATA/SATA hookup if possible.
That way you can use the clone facility and it won't take all night.

Partimage works with all partition types. The fact the partition is ntfs is (largely) irrelevant - you boot up the Linux live CD and just copy the partition bit for bit.

i've used acronis a few times and it works a treat even when using the back up function aswell.

ive always used Ghost on everything except windows 7 where I just use windows 7 lol
