Actually, neither phone rings - one in the lounge and one in the bedroom.
Last time it rang was Wednesday early evening, we don't get too many landline calls so didn't notice anything wrong until this afternoon when in-laws rang and asked where we'd been all day - checked phone and had missed calls
Checked for a ring by using our mobiles, both phones are working perfectly apart from having no incoming ringer (answered using visual indicators).
Connected one phone to the master socket and it's the same, no incoming ring. Phones do ring when we experimented by altering the ringtone, so fault lies with internal wiring (doubtful IMO) or external as in 'green box' type of problem.

Rang 150 and just ended up with a 'computer' advisor that recognises a problem with the phone (the online check however comes back with no problems found) and wants us to book an engineer visit - not keen on that as a busy weekend coming up.
Do we have to go down this route? or is there a way to speak to someone who could narrow down the problem and avoid the problem of 'waiting in' for a visit?
EDIT
Well this is fun, decided to go once more with 150 . . . 5 minutes of pressing 1, 4, 2, 1 etc etc, told by the nice recorded lady that my security password doesn't entitle me for a fast track engineer appointment (what?? I didn't ask for one) and told there's a 15 minute queue, please hold or ring back later . . .
so currently listening to some garbled high pitched tinny music reminiscent of Pinky & Perky, sure hope the wait is worth it
EDIT 2
Engineer visit booked for Weds am - one hopes he doesn't try to ring and confirm the appointment
