Actually General and gasdfdsaq are some of the most prolific and knowledgeable posters on these forums.

Heres what you said:

Older PC--

Despite the html links instead of bbcode, if we extract the image path and paste it into a browser, we get

Which clearly shows your "Older PC" is connected to an ISP called Redstation, which appears to be a VPN/Colocation/VPS provider. This is what qas is referring to, I believe, and is also probably the source of your speed bottleneck.

not really dude, I actually go out of my way to explain things to people and encourage them to buy and set things up the proper way so everything works and they don't have to keep posting on forums for help. It is Qas that likes to ridicule people so you can look forward to that later because he isn't going to be impressed with your post.

Anyways, you are the one who keeps flapping on about stuff to do with wireless and the reason why we go on about wired connections is because wireless connectivity is prone to interference as a result of multiple factors and any speed reduction will more than likely be a result of impaired communication between your device and wireless router and not your router and wan connection. That is why we said do a direct wired test because you for all intents and purposes you remove most of the variables which would affect your lan connection and move to being able to test your VM connection.

You can look up patch cables all you want on google but I'll give you the skinny version here. UTP (you made a typo) is Unshielded Twisted Pair) which is by far the prevalent type is use today (you can also get STP which you can look up). The colours are irrelevant and only serve a descriptive purpose. As an example, if you have a large 48 port switch, with all the ports in use, as well as labelling each cable you might want to use different coloured cables so you can immediately see what type of devices are connected to each. As an example. I use black cables for the links between my routers and switches, yellow for my servers and blue for the clients (e.g. pc/tv/bluray player). The difference between cat5, 5e and 6 won't matter to you. The wiring is slightly different inside the cable and the whole point is that each type of cable is able to achieve increasingly higher speeds. You should really be using cat 5e these days because it is rated at 1gbit (1000mbits for you) but seeming as though you are only testing a 60mbit connection cat5 is fine.

Like Milambar said, it is obvious you have got some vpn software on your pc which you aren't even aware of so before you come onto a forum like this and whine about stuff not working you should clean house first. We can't anticipate every single thing you might be using to see if your connection is screwed up. If you think we are bad, you should try ringing VM up. They'll do a factory reset on your router for you and tell you you have got a virus.

Adios ciao au revoir

Correct, and very astute Milambar. Redstation's servers are in many places but they are a Scottish company.

"Registered in Scotland, Company No. SC275629." right on their homepage.

I agree with the General on this one as I have an old PC... I borrowed my mates PC with an i3 processor in and what a difference it made to the speeds.

And did you try a Medion PC with an i3 processor? Or an i7?

Re: Just updated n it Crapola!

what an ass, my speeds are not always the same and I am on 152mb, I have my own router attached to superhub 1 and I paid best part of £100 for it even that doesn't stop crap results you get from speednet...sometimes I do speednet it only gives me 20mb speeds other times 70mb and on the lucky times I get 150+

I also have a killer n wireless card in my laptop...wired I can usually but not all the time max out speeds on wireless it's between 100 and 145mb ocassionally I get 150+

there are allsorts of factors why speeds won't be what they are I can't see them doing anything wrong here other than helping you and you've come on here with an attitude yourself

Re: Just updated n it Crapola!

Did NOT have a Clue about cables for Router. I Do now after reading on internet..
I don't know how I got that Redstation Limited from.
New one from old pc useing Bristol.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/4081595430.png
Not got a clue what Grade:B is.....I can build you a PC and take apart. I can photograph anything. (i'm a photographer) I can drive any vehicle you care to put in front of me. But when it comes to Router cables I knew Nowt. Not ever ever had a problem with NTL or Virgin until they switched me to 60mb. Reason for asking in here. I still say you treated me like a complete idiot when a simpler explanation in laymans terms would of sufficed. All is Now Good this way and my friend is bringing up 5 2m cat 6 cables for me next week. He told me off as I did not ask him the questions...Lesson learnt. Thank You...

Just saw it's the same on this older PC. Darn it.
Please try to Explain to me why I'm STILL getting this Redstation bloody thing and how do I get rid of it..Is this PC hacked.
On the other it is Grade:B ISP: Virgin Media Server: Bristol.BAFFLED!!

Thankfully I never had a problem with NTL or VM in over 15 years or more...Until now. But I find without your help that the problem was with VM...You still never told me what the differences are with the Cat cable--cat5, cat5e, cat 6 or the differing colours of the cable.. In Fact, don't bother telling me. Google will know more than you..
gasdfdsaq----Had nothing that said Scotland this way..I'm not as dull as most of you make me out to be...If I had seen Scotland I would not do a test from there. Obvious in it..Well, first time in here in over 6 years..Last as well. Pompus twits..
I'm rather glad I missed all this.... in it!
