People subscribe to pay tv for choice not just 3 channels , they may be a let down to you but clearly not everyone shares your view. The Sky Entertainment channels generally have the better viewing figures amongst the pay channels in fact far better than Fox so clearly again not everyone agrees with your assumption.

Most people don't just want a better choice of rubbish.

Look at Netflix and all the stuff they have to offer. It puts Sky to shame, it really does.

But Netflix, apart from a few exclusive shows, is past content; at least a season behind. Pay TV channels show current content, more and more often these days, within a few days of US broadcast.

I don't understand why you keep comparing Netflix with current channels; they fulfil different purposes. It's good to have both.

Well, it seems to me that Netflix are putting out whole series of original material every month, so I don't think that is a fair statement at all.

Yes, the channels and the on demand services are different, but when you compare the amount and the quality of material, Sky, in my humble opinion, are sadly wanting. Sky 1 and 2 have certainly gone downhill in the last few years.

Re: Get rid of Netflix?

In defence of Netflix (which I cancelled yesterday), they are beginning to take original content seriously. Lemony Snickett was very good and we will certainly take a further ad-hoc subscription when they release the next series. However, they have clearly pursued a policy of being a large catch-up library and have acquired that reputation. They will have to fund a lot more original content to change that perception.

Re: Get rid of Netflix?

Aside from their own created content which is a lot by the way. Many of the series they show are now exclusives in the UK and are up to date with the USA air dates AFAIK.

Rockcrusher is trying new projects but this isn't the place to discuss these things.

But if everyone switched to kodi and the grey area addons then there would be no money for new content so in turn kodi addons would be useless anyway.
Yes i use kodi but i also subscribe to netflix and sky.

That is true; a couple of good ones this season are Shooter and Designated Survivor. Amazon are doing the same. There are still more of those across the Pay TV channels though. Netflix/Amazon originals plus their network show acquisitions is why streaming plus pay TV (a low tier subscription in my case) is a good option.

Re: Get rid of Netflix?

I've also just noticed Netflix has Riverdale and get the episodes just as they air in the USA.

That's right. I'm constantly getting emails from Netflix about the new stuff they are adding, and there are a fair few originals coming out as well. I'm only just starting to watch 'Stranger Things' and I have so much listed on that platform alone that I don't know when I'm going to watch most of it.

The good material is changing from the broadcast channels to on line services such as Netflix and Amazon, and I'm struck by how few clashes I have been getting when recording programmes this autumn/winter. With my new v6 boxes and HDD recorder, I have been looking forward to being able to record loads of programmes to extend our choices still further, but there's been hardly anything on worth even considering. At this time of the year, that is not a good sign, and the proportion of dramas from pay tv that are worth watching has definitely declined. There will come a point fairly soon I think when Sky and VM subscribers will question seriously whether cutting the cord would reduce noticeably their choice of viewing. I've certainly been contemplating that myself this last few months.

Yes there is some nice stuff on there but that does not substantiate your wild claims you so succinctly made to us all.
