Unhappy What could be worse than this?

On 14 September 2007, 14-year-old Andrew Gosden walked out of the family home in Doncaster, boarded a train to London with a one-way ticket and then simply vanished.
A short sequence of CCTV stills captured that morning at King's Cross station represents the last certain sighting of the schoolboy.
A decade on, his disappearance remains a mystery.

Sadly, the police response is in stark contrast to the resources put into certain other high profile disappearances we're all familiar with. I can only imagine the pain the family of this boy have been living with for the last decade and wonder why more wasn't and isn't being done for people like them. They must feel badly let down.

Re: What could be worse than this?

It has happened, and still happens, all too often.

Yes it does and it's terribly unfair. There are some notable exceptions which for reasons we can only guess at seem to command vast amounts of media coverage, police time etc. etc. but the vast majority of people who've suffered just as much get comparatively little help and sometimes even find their own efforts frustrated by the authorities who ought to be helping them. It's bizarre.

Re: What could be worse than this?

It's a very weird mystery though and most be so awful for the family. I just can't imagine it. How much worse it must be to never have an answer, to have the unrealised hope that one day he'll unlock the door.

It's so odd. He intentionally went to London but got a single ticket despite it being £1 more for a return (kinda think the ticket seller should have been suspicious there?). The police took 27 days to look at the CCTV at King's Cross. They don't have any indication he was talking to someone online to meet. I saw people speculate he went to a concert because a band who are affiliated with Slipknot were playing that day and he had a Slipknot t-shirt but then why no return ticket? Also his dad had taken him to concerts so why do it without asking this time?

As for the media coverage what catches the public imagination and media attention can be pure chance.

It's all very odd and all the more reason for the police to take it seriously. You could be forgiven for thinking that police resources are allocated according to media coverage and social media demand. It's shocking really, this lad was only 14 and very little appears to have been done. The endless hours of police time and millions spent on Madeleine McCann must seem like an insult to this family who seem to have had little help and not much more sympathy.

For once, I totally agree with you on that one.
