Re: hops

Hop 7 and 8 seem to be timing out consistantly. Is your internet slow all the time or at peak times i.e in the evening.

HI
some days the internet is fine others its just p**s poor

vm told me that 7 and 8 where just firewalled and this was common

tbh i know nothing about any of this , hence why i posted

should they time out like this ?

also vm told me thats its nothing to do with them as it not on there servers tbh am lost at what i can do

its so frustrating

Re: hops

Suitably firewalled servers etc will timeout like that - VM are correct. S'equivalent of turning ping response off on your home router to stop anyone pinging your IP from getting a reply... but not quite the same. Easiest analogy I can think of...

Re: hops

Some servers which your trace is passing through block icmp requests and so don't show their own replies, but still pass on the replies and forwards of others, hence you're seeing "timed out" messages.

99% of those pings above are <25ms - looks like the route your packets are taking to their target destination is fine. Certainly playable.

Try pinging the target destination with larger packets:

ping -l 2048 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
