They don't want or need to merge. How many times do you need to be told. Your fantasy is not going to happen.

To be honest it is a bit of a circle.

Here's how the previous merger worked.

Bell Cable Media which already acquired Nynex internationally not just in the UK acquired Videotron UK operations in 1996, then Cable and Wireless acquired 53% of the company and merged in Mercury Communications creating Cable and Wireless Communications, therefore Nynex-Bell held a 47% share in Cable and Wireless Communications until NTL took over, explains why it was so bad!

Then MCI acquired Nynex-Bell and this eventually turned into Verizon, as you know Verizon is part owned by Vodafone.

Vodafone are now interested in Cable and Wireless Worldwide.

It's a bit of a circle, although for some reason I never thought Vodafone would have got so big, I always thought it would get swallowed up by a rival.

Vodafone's expensive price plans and world wide presence has made them strong. Vodafone acquiring Cable and Wireless Worldwide maybe a good thing for both companies, Vodafone will be able to expand into a converged telecoms provider and will turn Cable and Wireless Worldwide around.

Vodafone is more of a responsible company especially when it comes to finances which is why they are operational in nearly every country in the world. In the UK they have fallen to the 4th largest mobile network, but this can be a good thing as they are focusing high spending customers and can offer the best service, an over subscribed service can lead to network congestion, slow internet ect....

Everything Everywhere may claim that they are market leaders with 28 Million+ customers but this won't stay for long as they are becoming uncompetitive and other networks like 3 are offering better or same services for half the price.

BT,Cable and Wireless Worldwide and Virgin Media are not so good when entering new markets like the mobile phone industry, they always seem to mess it up somehow or something goes wrong after 5 years and they end up selling it off. That's why i'm wondering if Virgin Media bidding for a 4G licence is a mistake rather than good news. I don't trust NTL will be a good player in the industry. They failed at trying to get a 3G licence and when they took over Virgin Mobile, they haven't really invested in it well and it seems to have gone down a bit. Same with BT, after they got shut of Cellnet, there tries with BT Mobile was terrible!

Vodafone do not own shares in Verizon itself, but a 45% are in Verizon Wireless (the US mobile division of Verizon), that has been the case when Vodafone’s US division (formally AirTouch) Merged with Bell Atlantic’s (including NYNEX and GTE assets) US Mobile Division to form Verizon Wireless. Since then Vodafone has been having issue with Verizon over the way the now biggest mobile company in the USA is run. It will only be a matter of time until it sells to Verizon

Vodafone got big via takeovers in the fast growing mobile market in the 1990s, like the $70 Billion buyout of AirTouch, the £112 Billion Buyout of Mannesmann and the $17 Billion buyout of Hutchison Essar!

Everything Everywhere is currently a mess with the use of 3 different brands and need fixing, I also predict a reorganisation of UK Mobile Companies, I think that Virgin Mobile, Vodafone, O2 and 3 are next to merge/purchase with each other. The same would apply all across the world

Also BT only sold its mobile networks (now O2) to pay of its debts after the dot-com crash, now they are owned by Telefónica

Virgin Media needs to think about what to do about Virgin Mobile UK, maybe they could buy 3 or even Everything Everywere!

I don't know if you have noticed Alan, but half the world is in a financial mess. And companies don't have the money to to invest in wild, unworkable mergers or takeovers.

Think you've missed the big opportunity Alan. VM should be buying SES, then they could reach 99% of the world's population and, at the same time, as owners of the transmission medium stick one in the eye of sky et el

Cheers

Why would Virgin Media want to take over Everything Everywhere? They might be better off just leasing the network and sit back and let Everything Everywhere do the work.

Also some people don't like NTL/Virgin Media as a company, some people can't stand the Virgin brand either, like me with Orange, if it was called Virgin Mobile, i'm sure many people will leave because I know for a fact the tariffs and pricing will just be high, Virgin Media are expensive in comparison with alternatives, I stick with them because getting the service was hassle free including moves and transfers and the service i'm getting is quite good. If you compare the amount people spend on BT,Sky and TalkTalk services, Virgin Media customers spend more on there services.

Virgin Media needs to lower its prices to compete well in the near future, currently, they rank the most expensive home phone service in the UK, and things like 100mb broadband are priced too high to the point where families would struggle to pay for this.

That's what it has to do to compete well, not acquire or merge with other companies.

Who else in the UK offers 100mb broadband to over 10 million households. Its a premium service with no competitors so they can charge what they like

If any company would buy SES, that would be BSkyB or Canal+

Imagine though if they did, that would annoy Sky (and their allies) big time

I do not think that Virgin Media will lower their price, but I hope they will improve their service. Also are you suggesting Virgin Media should drop the "Virgin" brand and sell Virgin Mobile?
