Mis-billing for 01x calls

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else on CF...

Looks like Virgin have some issues with customers calling particular 01x numbers and being mis-billed:

Re: Mis-billing for 01x calls

Just so you know that Tesco and Cable and Wireless have a share in each other or something like that so of course they are gonna profit from 0845 numbers, revenue share for 0845 and 0870 numbers has ended but the owners can still profit from them for example Virgin Media's 0845 customer service number is profitable because Virgin Media wholly own the number.

The problem is with Cable and Wireless, and they are not likely to fall out with Virgin Media because Virgin Media as well as the former NTL,Telewest,Eurobell and T-Mobile companies have always had a close relationship with Cable and Wireless so meaning that they wash each others backs.

Cable and Wireless provide Emergency Services via 999 and operator assistance via 100 as well as international operator assistance via 155 to Virgin Media and T-Mobile customers .

Cable and Wireless also provide the connection of calls to international destinations for such companies as well and also provide LLU access for Virgin Media National customers in some areas.

Cable and Wireless are like a hidden BT, they are about, they are large, they run the worlds communications but you don't see or hear of them much!

Re: Mis-billing for 01x calls

Oh I totally accept that - but there's a basic principle in British telecoms: That you pay for the number you have dialled.

If you call an 01/02/03 number, then you should be charged accordingly. The issue here seems to have been that people calling landline numbers that happen to be geographic equivalents to 084x numbers, are being charged for "operator connected" calls to said 084x numbers.

That technical faults happen from time-to-time is perfectly acceptable. What appears, from some comments on those forums, to be happening is that Virgin are being more than a little dishonest and/or underhand in how they are dealing with complaints.

Re: Mis-billing for 01x calls

To be honest I don't think Virgin Media get many complaints of this nature, however I would suggest that you contact Ofcom and let them know. They don't deal with individual complaints but do make a note of it and investigate if a few complaints pop up.
